Crenshaw jumped out to an early double-digit lead that they pretty much maintained throughout the game. Sylmar made a brief run in the third quarter when they actually managed to take the lead on a three-point shot, but Crenshaw restored order and kept Sylmar at bay. The Cougars ultimately won 88-75.
Here’s a look at some of the top standouts from that game.
1. KJ Bradley – Crenshaw 2021
Bradley is one of the most underrated point guards in Southern California. He certainly has a case for best point guard in the city of Los Angeles. He is everything you would want in a floor general. He is solid in transition; he can get to the rim or he can find his teammates on the break. He’s a very good ball-handler and he can maintain his dribble under constant defensive pressure. He can draw contact and get to the free-throw line.
2. Aaron Reyes – Sylmar 2020
Reyes is a bit of a versatile player. He can run the floor well and finish strong at the rim after catching a pass. He can also handle the ball a little bit and make plays off the dribble. He can score in the paint and he can shoot from the outside. He’s a solid rebounder, especially on the offensive end helping to secure second shot opportunities. Decent defensive player.
3. Justin Cornelius – Crenshaw 2020
Cornelius is an athletic finisher around the rim. His guards can throw the ball up near the vicinity of the rim and he’ll finish the play. He’s a strong rebounder who uses his athleticism well to secure the glass. Plays solid wing defense and can use his defense to start a break and generate offense. He can shoot from the three-point line and is deadly when left open.
4. Naeem Muhammad – Crenshaw
Muhammad stood out for a lot of the little things he did that don’t always show up on a stat sheet. He runs the floor well in transition either on or off ball. He pushes the pace well. He crashes the glass hard. He can shoot well from the outside, he spots up well and squares up. He hit some big threes in the fourth quarter when Crenshaw was holding off Sylmar.
