We’ve had the opportunity to watch many of these first year players, several of whom are already making a significant impact on their teams this year. While we have yet to do the full rankings, we do feel we have settled upon a top 10 based on production and potential.
Please note that these are very initial rankings and a lot will change over the course of the next 3+ yeras. Here’s a quick look at where we see top freshmen at the current moment.
1. Marquis Cook, Jefferson
Hands down the top player in the class, “Mookie” has been leading the Demos in scoring while already picking up scholarship offers including the Pac-12 (Oregon, Washington, Washington State).
2. Jackson Shelstad, West Linn
Has started at the point from day one and has had games where he’s lit it up from three-point range. Another member of the class who has already picked up multiple college scholarship offers.
3. Adrian Mosley, Grant
Do-it-all player who has in some ways become Grant’s go-to guy when they need a bucket. Style of play brings back memories of “old school”.
4. Kavon Bradford, Benson
Devastating scorer who is a bit unorthodox in his movements but uses it to his advantage. Has rebounded extremely well for his height.
5. Esyah Pippa-White, Gresham
Young lead guard has not only started at the point for the Gophers but has had some huge games. Has tallied some double-doubles in points and assists.
6. Malik Brown, Tigard
Has gotten the starting nod in the backcourt for the Tigers and has complimented Drew Carter well. Competes hard and can also score and pass.
7. Bogdan Chobu, Liberty
Skilled guard has gotten the early call as a starter for the Falcons.
8. Sanborne Melson, Jefferson
Injury shelved his season but was starting to get some quality varsity minutes.
9. Kalim Brown, Tigard
Twin brother of Kalim has gotten some quality minutes off of the bench. Plays with a relentless motor.
10. Ty May, Philomath
Young big man could be the top freshman not up at the 6A level.
