Micah Leslie is a player who has been one the top players in his class for a while now. He stands at 6’5 and plays at the forward position. This year he has to play on Mullen’s JV team due to the transfer rule, which is a shame that we do not get to see him at the varsity level this year. He plays a similar style to Paul Millsap, having a nice mid range game, good footwork down low, makes hustle plays, and locks down on the defensive end. Definitely someone to look out for when AAU season comes around.
Zach Keller unfortunately is out for his sophomore year with a hip injury. Over the off season he was looking to be one of the top sophomores in the state dominating in AAU and summer league games. Standing at 6’8, and he may still be growing, he has great height down low and a very good back to the basket game. Also he can spread the floor being able to hit mid range jumpers and some three point shots. Hopefully he takes his time and comes back from injury when he is ready, cannot wait to see this kid play.
Joel Speckman has been having a great sophomore year earning a starting spot at Chaparral. Standing at 6’7 he has good height which allows him to get easy lay ins over smaller defenders. Also he has some of the best foot work down low, using some crafty moves to get finishes down low. Joel also has some good developing ball handling skills and can spread the floor with the ability to shoot from outside. If Joel works on getting stronger down low and works on everything he has right now the sky is the limit for him.
Lamarius Royston is a 6’6 forward who is built like a grown man. He is very bulky which allows him to bang down low with taller players. He transferred from Smoky Hill to Overland this school year. Lamarius is a very good athlete who can go up to put back tip ins and dunks. He has a good mid range game which allows him to spread the floor.
Derik Pranger is stepping up and getting good minutes on a surprisingly good Arapahoe team this year. He is a lengthy 6’6 who is averaging 5.8 points per game. Derik has a soft touch on the inside and a good mid range jumper. It will be interesting to see how his game will progress with this young Arapahoe squad.
