Manhattan is deep and balanced. Washburn Rural revolves around Joe Berry. A few other teams in the league don’t feature a tandem of stars. As for 1-2 punches, these are probably the best in the league:
King Sutton, senior, and Da’Vonshai Harden, senior, Topeka High:
Perhaps the two athletically dynamic tandem is the 6-foot-7 Sutton and 6-foot-3 Harden. Sutton is a shot-blocking, two-hand dunking terror who is averaging 16.3 points a game. Harden can shoot from deep, rebound and defend nearly everyone on the court. He’s scoring 12.7.
Elijah Brooks, sophomore, and Trevion Alexander, junior, Topeka West:
Brooks is scoring 16.8 per outing. He’s a big and versatile guard and arguably the best sophomore in the league. Alexander is averaging 13.7 a game.
Charles Snyder, junior, and Skyler Douglas, senior, Emporia:
The 6-foot-4 Snyder has had some enormous outings against some of the league’s best: 21 and 22 in games against Topeka West, and 33 against Topeka High. He’s averaging 21.7 on the year. 5-foot-10 senior Douglas provides consistent support with 11.9 a game.
CJ Powell, junior, and Juan’Tario Roberts, sophomore, Highland Park:
Not to slight junior Jahi Peppers, who has nine games in double figures. He could be a part of the tandem. But Roberts has six games of 20 or more, and is averaging 15.2. The 6-foot-7 Powell leads the Scots with 17.3 a game.
Vicarrio Triplett, junior, and John Roeder, senior, Hayden:
It hasn’t been a banner season for the Wildcats, but they get really good guard play from this tandem. Roeder provides gritty leadership and averages 11.1 per game. Triplett has gradually taken over the lead role on the team, and averages 12.1.
