It was the second meeting of these two St. Louis area powers. CBC won the first meeting at Chaminade 70-55 a few weeks ago.
The first quarter saw CBC heat it up from long distance as it built a 29-16 lead in the strength of six 3-pointers. They lead 49-38 at halftime before Chaminade battled back to cut the lead to 59-56 after three quarters.
The Cadets responded with a big fourth quarter to take an 88-75 victory and both games over Chaminade.
Here is a look at the Top 5 Stars from the CBC-Chaminade game.
No. 1 Star: Caleb Love (CBC) – The McDonald’s All-American scores a game-high 35 points to lead the Cadets. He got things rolling early with 14 first quarter points, including four deep 3-pointers. The second quarter was highlighted by a windmill dunk off a steal. When Chaminade cut the lead down in the third quarter, Love shut things down with 10 points in the fourth quarter.
No. 2 Star: Tarris Reed Jr (Chaminade) – The 6’8 2022 forward was a stud last night with 26 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks. He was a force in the paint with low post moves, dunks and blocks. He also stepped out and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers. He’s the No. 1 ranked 2022 in the Prep Hoops Missouri Class rankings for a reason.
No. 3 Star: Chevalier Brenson (CBC) – The 6’3 2021 wing had 16 points and three rebounds while playing with his usual high motor on the defensive end. He’s the Draymond Green of CBC as a small-ball Center who can guard all five positions while still handling the ball and making plays without having to be a focal point off the offense.
No. 4 Star: Robert Martin (CBC) – The 5’9 2022 point guard scored 10 points and handed out a team high nine assists. He did an excellent job pushing the pace and he dropped some beautiful dimes in transition. He is quick and he walks the fine balance of being a facilitating point guard and a bucket-getter.
No. 5 Star: Matteus Case (Chaminade) – The 6’5 2020 guard scored 15 points and sparked the Red Devils’ third-quarter rally with his 3-point shooting. The Canadian wing has smooth handles and a nice stroke from distance. He also made a couple of baseline floaters that were difficult shots, but he made look easy.
