6’1 Jr Barcus Jackson | Lift for Life
Barcus had a MONSTER performance despite the loss to Jennings on Saturday. He poured in 32 points on 14-22 shooting and also added 11 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists. Had Lift for Life pulled off the win, he would have been a lock for MVP of the event. He plays with tremendous effort and his profile has been rising since a solid summer with the Blazers. While he can fill it up from the scoring column, his high-motor and athleticism make him a menace on the glass and defensively. Not to mention, he is unselfish and shares the ball well on a balanced Lift for Life team that can have a different hero every night.
6’4 Sr Lyndell Hunt | Confluence
Lyndell continued his solid senior campaign against Granite City Saturday. At his best, he is catching in the high post or short corner and attacking the rim where he is almost an automatic bucket. He showed off his perimeter ball skills and handled the rock comfortably in transition. He was active defensively. Had a well timed chase down block. He is an underrated passer. Plus athleticism, finished a nice two hand slam after a dump-off.
6’1 Sr Jahkeis Tippitt | Granite City
Shifty, talented wing that had some impressive bursts against Confluence. Created offense well off the bounce. He was able to get separation and elevate for a couple jumpers. He was very strong to the rim. Tight spin move that covers ground. Good hang time on the drive and nice touch on the runner. He also showed the ability to finish through contact.
6’3 Sr Tariq Miller | Jennings
Tariq was nearly perfect in an uber-efficient performance Saturday in a big win over Lift for Life. He finished with 21 points on 10-12 shooting and also yanked down 9 boards. He had a couple strong rip and go drives where he finished through contact with his left hand. Knocked down some tough pull-up jumpers. He also showed some versatility with a nice reverse pivot score on a post up.
6’2 Jr Damarion Shanklin | Jennings
Damarion had himself a game against Life for Life as well. He finished with a game high 24 points and hauled in 9 rebounds as well. Strong with the basketball. Crafty finisher off the bounce that showed good body and ball control with some acrobatic double-pump finishes. Stepped out and knocked down a three pointer. He was terrific drawing contact and getting to the line where he knocked down 9 of 10 attempts.
6’6 Sr Devon Barshow | McCluer
Devon is a long, angular wing that drips with talent. With his perimeter skills, quickness, length, and athleticism he could play and defend any position on the floor if needed. He has good elevation on his shot with a feathery touch and good range. He was tough off the bounce and showed the uncanny ability to draw fouls when he pulls up. He did not shoot as well as normal, but cashed in on 10 of 12 free throw attempts in route to a team high 14 points.
6’3 Jr Mario Fleming | Cardinal Ritter
McCluer did a pretty good job of limiting Super Mario in the first half but he started to heat up late as Cardinal Ritter made their furious second half rally. He is an excellent mid-range shooter. Was very effective Saturday in transition where he beat the crowd down the floor a number of times for easy lay-ups.
