It seems like only yesterday I was watching Liberty and Arbor View tip off the season. Throughout the year we have had some remarkable performances. While everyone wants to be the leading scorers, contributions come in all forms. Over the next few days, I will be selecting my All- PH Team’s, celebrating valuable skills that go into making a successful squad. In this article, we take a look at the PrepHoopsNevada All Handle Team celebrating the players with the tightest handles in the state.
Daishen Nix 6’5 PG Trinity 2020 (#1PHN 2020) – It would be impossible to have a team like this without NIx on it. The 6’5 PG has what I call power handles, as he has the ability to maintain maximum control of the ball even after receiving contact. Nix is perhaps the best off the dribble passer in the country.
Keshon Gilbert 6’2 PG Durango 2021 (#6PHN 2021) – Gilbert has tight shifty handles. What impresses me most about his handles, is his ability to use COD’s in tight spaces. It is not rare to watch Gilbert use a behind the back crossover to escape a trap. He does a terrific job of using short quick bursts to create space and he has a playground like creativity with the basketball.
Milos Uzan 6’3 PG Desert Pines 2022 (#1PHN 2022) (featured image) – Uzan has a professional handle. He has a unique ability to keep the ball on a string no matter how fast he is going. His COD is quick and forceful and he can do it spontaneously. Like Nix, Uzan has the unique ability to deliver perfect passes off the dribble.
Jaden Hardy 6’5 PG Coronado 2021 (#1PHN 2021) – Hardy has perhaps the most efficient handle of any player on the list. He is a Wizard at using short quick COD’s to give himself just enough space to get a shot off. Hardy has an array of 1 on 1 skills that he uses to split traps, navigate ball screens and free himself from defenders.
Kobe Stroughter 6’1 PG Liberty 2021 (#12PHN 2021) – Stroughter has what I call herky jerky handles. He dribbles with a terrific pace, using the changes of speeds and heights to freeze defenders. He’s not going to blow by you with his first step, rather he uses it to set up defenders before exploding into his COD.
Tavionte Jackson 6’0 PG Las Vegas 2022 (#6PHN 2022) – Jackson has pure PG handles. Blessed with long arms for the position, the best aspect of his ballhandling skills is his ability to protect the ball while playing at high speeds. He’s also a shooting threat, so he utilizes his first step to blow by the first defender, and his shifty handle to avoid the next one. He has a fundamentally sound game that translates to his ballhandling ability.
