It seems like only yesterday I was watching Liberty and Arbor View tip off the season. Throughout the year we have had some remarkable performances. While everyone wants to be the leading scorers, contributions come in all forms. Over the next few days, I will be selecting my All- PH Team’s, celebrating valuable skills that go into making a successful squad. In this article, we take a look at the PrepHoopsNevada All Dark Alley Team, celebrating some of the most mentally and physically tough players in the state.
1st Team
PG: Faizon Woods 6’0 Legacy 2020 – Physical guard that thrives on the defensive end. Woods brings an edge and toughness to any team he’s on.
W: David Moore 6’2 Arbor View 2020 – Moore doesn’t care how big or strong the opponent is, he just competes. Good athlete with the upper body strength to deter opposing players from posting up.
W: John Board 6’1 Basic 2021 (feature image) – Perhaps no player better embodies what Basic is all about than Board. The 6’1 guard brings it every single night. Even though he is one of the teams leading scorers, he’s never afraid to go down in the trenches and get his hands dirty.
PF: Mike Martin 6’2 Spring Valley – Just a pit bull. Martin battles every possesion against players 3 and 4 inches taller than him. You’ll never beat him to the floor for a loose ball, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get his team a w.
P: Fernando Carmona 6’5 Las Vegas 2021 – Look at him. Carmona looks as if he is about 28. There are a lot of built like Tarzan plays like Jane players out there, however, Junior is not one of them. He has a tireless motor and will bang with anyone. A good hard nose interior defender and rebounder, he was the easy choice for this position.
2nd Team
PG: Matthew Felsenfeld 5’9 Boulder City 2021 – “Felsy” As he is affectionately called by his teammates is the ultimate tough guy. He’s not the fastest or the strongest, but he doesn’t care, he is still willing to get into players. He loves to challenge ballhandlers off the dribble and will sacrifice his body in a heartbeat.
W: Antonio Mallerio 5’10 Palo Verde 2020 – Maillaro is an absolute dog. Not only will he defend at a high level, but he also is willing to sacrifice his body for extra possession. He hits the floor about 5 times a game, leaving no doubt about his desire to win.
W: Max Heinz 6’2 Faith Lutheran – I have made no secret about how much I enjoy watching Heinz play, technically he is one of the top Glue guys in the state, however, it is hard to think of toughness and not include him. Body sacrificer, that takes pride in his ability to defend anyone.
PF: Kareem Rowe 6’5 PF McQueen 2020 – Rowe routinely faces double and triple teams. Despite that, he manages to rebound, and finish through contact at a high level.
P: Nati AsFaw 6’5 Del Sol 2020 – Asfaw has put together a terrific career. One of the main reasons he makes this team is because of his willingness to sacrifice his numbers for the good of the group. He is a dominant low post force who could easily demand the ball every time, however his unselfishness opens up opportunities for his teammates which takes a lot of mental toughness. What I love best about him is that when it’s time to be a dog, he becomes a Pit.
