FVA: Jake Dietz – F – Neenah
Dietz has played second-fiddle to Max Klesmit for the majority of this season, but that’s hardly visible in his statistical production. The forward is averaging 12.9 points and 6 rebounds a game, and he’s liable for scoring bursts when pitted against a smaller guard, as his size and shooting touch pose a serious matchup problem.
Midwest Classic: Greg Farrow – G – University School
Despite standing at 5’7”, Farrow dominates games — and the conference — as a scorer. He’s averaging 24.4 points a game, connecting on 46 threes already and getting out in transition often.
Greater Metro: Hayden Doyle – G – Brookfield East
Doyle spent last year in a secondary role, but with a new opportunity open, he jumped into a high-volume position without much friction. His range and basketball IQ have been big factors in keeping East among the top teams in the conference, and as a junior, he will continue to grow and expand his arsenal.
North Shore: Cullen Starker – F – Whitefish Bay
He won’t shock you with overwhelming potential or gaudy athleticism, but Starker is surely making an impact for the second-best team in the North Shore Conference. Aside from chipping in 7.3 points per game, he leads the team in assists and rebounds, adopting the “glue guy” role in his junior season.
Classic Eight: Johnny Kelliher – F – Waukesha South
The 6’5” forward has paced South this season offensively, scoring 20.8 points a night. Although South has only three wins, the size and scoring combo of Kelliher (which came after he averaged just single digits last season) is enough to make him a breakout prospect.
Badger – South: Jack Campion – G – Milton
The sophomore guard’s rise to stardom was inevitable, but I didn’t expect it to come so quickly — or with this much scoring. Campion is averaging 19.8 points a game, his shifty play allowing for easy buckets and making for a constant playmaking threat. And, to make his case stronger, he’s taken Milton from single-digit wins last season to top three in the conference.
Badger – North: Nate Abel – G – Beaver Dam
Abel showed promise on the Prep Hoops Circuit, but it’s still a surprise to see the junior leading the conference in scoring. His flick three-point shot and ability to play one step ahead of his defenders with combo moves and craftiness make him not only a breakout player but a serious prospect going forward.
SWAL: Kellen Kenny – G – Fennimore
Kenny is a constant triple-double threat, producing a loaded stat line nightly. And, though Kenny has been this productive for the past two seasons, Fennimore’s ability to compete in a talent-laden conference makes his stats that much more meaningful.
Metro Classic: Andrew Alia – G – Kenosha St. Joseph
Alia is a proven scorer and savant with the rock. This year, with plenty of college interest surrounding him, he’s continued expanding his game. As he’s grown in height and physical ability, he’s contributed more as a defender, blocking shots and poking away the ball from defenders.
Milwaukee City: Shelton Williams-Dryden – F – Milwaukee Bay View
Averaging a double-double has become second nature to Williams-Dryden. This output has given Bay View the legs needed to overcome offseason turnover, as they remain 9-0 in conference with a new leader on their roster.
