Both teams are bonafide contenders in Class 3 this season. Blair Oaks is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 3 while St. Michael’s was a Final Four team last season.
The game was controlled by Blair Oaks from the opening tip as it posted an 83-58 victory. Here is a look at the top standouts from the Blair Oaks-St Michael’s game.
Blair Oaks
Eric Northweather 6’9: Division II Truman State got an absolute steal in this skilled 2020 post player who finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He can score in the post, but he has ball handling and passing skills plus a nice stroke from 3-point range. He has plenty of tools in his arsenal.
Luke Northweather 6’9: The younger brother of Eric, the 2022 forward had 23 points and 11 rebounds. He is skilled as well, but he does most of his damage around the basket. He is long and mobile and he has a nice shooting touch. He even stepped out and hit a 3-pointer.
Quinn Kusgen 6’0: The 2022 guard stepped up big with 19 points as he complimented the Falcons’ bigs with his perimeter scoring. When he wasn’t knocking down open 3-pointers, he would find creases in the defense for knifing drives to the basket.
Jake Closser 5’9: A very solid 2021 point guard who scored 14 points. He handles the ball with care and gets it where it needs to go on offense. He makes open 3-pointers and moves well without the ball.
St. Michael’s
Ben Palacios 6’5: The smooth 2020 wing player scored 18 points while displaying his ability to play with or without the basketball. I love how he moves to the open spots to hit Corner 3s. His handles are good and he can create off the dribble.
Deuce Roberts 6’6: It was my first time seeing this 2022 wing and was very impressed with his talent and athleticism. He scored a team high 19 points as he slashed to the basket with swooping drives and pull up jumpers.
