While the contests may have been a bit mismatched, that doesn’t stop individual athletes from stepping up to the occasion and making a name for themselves whether in victory or defeat. The Bergen County Jamboree quarterfinals saw several athletes step up and play big.
Derrick Bueno, Junior, Paramus Catholic
He did it again — after delivering a dynamic performance in the first round against Dwight-Morrow, Bueno continued that strong surge. The double-double machine was at it still, doing more of the same. While Bueno’s Paramus Catholic team came up short in a 63-46 victory for Ramsey, that didn’t stop the big man from doing whatever he wanted on the court, scoring 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. His presence was felt throughout the matchup and helped the Paladins stay afloat.
Sean Hansen, Senior, Ramsey
While Paramus Catholic’s Bueno was dominant in his own right, it was Ramsey’s Sean Hansen‘s ability to virtually match him that helped the Rams in a significant way, producing an overall stat line that impressed. Hansen contributed 17 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Hansen hit two threes during the contest showing off his range as well.
Brendan Mykalcio, Senior, Don Bosco
On a team that had two top performers during the quarterfinals, it was tough to give the edge to one over the other. In a nutshell, Brendan Mykalcio and Myles Ruth were on top of their respective games against a high-powered Hackensack offense. In a year where Mykalcio has scored over 300 points and grabbed over 180 rebounds, the Ironmen continued to impress against the Comets. Scoring 21 points and nine rebounds, Mykalcio helped solidify a 78-57 victory.
