This event brings in elite international talent from across the world together during NBA All-Star Weekend. Many of these players will play on high-major colleges and some will choose to go the professional route. Check out Basketball Without Borders: Top Combo Guards!
Rafael Pinzon (Puerto Rico)
Pinzon is a 6’5” combo guard that plays his high school ball in America at Long Island Lutheran in New York. Played quite a bit on the ball throughout the weekend and we came away impressed with what he brought to the table as a playmaking guard. Pinzon consistently got in the lane with smooth acceleration where he displayed a feel for distributing the ball along with connecting on floaters consistently.
Jean Montero (Dominican Republic)
Montero lit it up on the final day of Basketball Without Borders. The 6’2” point guard plays his prep ball in Florida at DME Academy. He is a dynamic scorer that can get buckets from multiple levels. He won the three point contest to start off the day on Sunday then proceeded to tear up the competition for multiple games. Plus shooter both off the catch and three. Has quickness off the dribble getting in the lane where he knocked down mid-range pull ups with ease. Pesky on ball defender that has defensive potential.
Tamuri Wigness (Australia)
This Australia point guard is only 5’11”, but has game. Got after it on the defensive end and has surprising hops throwing down a couple jams. Decent decision maker in the pick and roll.
Josh Primo (Canada)
Primo goes to Compass Prep in Arizona. The 6’6” combo guard displayed such an ease to his game at the lead guard spot. Explosive taking it to the hoop. Will definitely need to add strength moving forward. Capable three point shooter especially off of the catch. Slick handles that can turn it over at times, but gets things done as well!
Bennedict Mathurin (Canada)
Mathurin was the star of the day on Sunday. This 6’6” combo guard recently committed to Arizona. He attends the NBA Latin America Academy. The 2021 wing can really go! Excellent three point shooter with crisp handles to match. Won in one on one situations all day getting to the hoop at will. Burst with the ball in his hands getting to the rim. Even caught an impressive lob with one hand. Arizona got a player that can play the one through three in the Pac 12.
Stefan Todorovic (Serbia)
Todorovic stands at 6’6” with the ability to play both on and off the ball. Clean looking shot that didn’t go down at quite the rate we would have expected from three. Was more effective from mid-range pulling up. Like the confidence he plays with.
