Continue ReadingIt was a historic week in the Baltimore area as the city united this weekend during the East Coast Bump event held at the UMBC Event Center. The history came into play when St. Frances and Poly dethroned two top-5 ranked teams in the country. Along with other factors, those results guarantee a shake up in the top of our rankings.
- St. Frances (31-3)
This week’s games: vs Loyola Blakefield, vs Mount St. Joe
St. Frances sent a statement to the country with a 19-point win over Oak Hill Academy last Saturday. It cemented them as the top team in the area and is just the momentum they needed heading into this week. Friday, they look to avenge their loss to Mount St. Joe from earlier this year.
- Poly (17-2)
This week’s games: vs Douglass
Poly did the unthinkable by defeating an IMG Academy school loaded with future high-major prospects. The Engineers held a double-digit lead for a respectable portion of this game, but escaped with a two-point victory. 2020 Brandon Murray is officially on the radar of more high-major programs and Justin Lewis gave further confirmation that he’s ready for Marquette. Poly will take on Douglass before prepping to play Lake Clifton in the city title game next week.
- Mount St. Joseph (23-4)
This week’s games: @ Goretti, @ St. Frances
The Gaels hit the road for their final week of the regular season, and it won’t be easy. They’ll take on a Goretti team who has found somewhat of a groove over the past few weeks before their rematch against St. Frances. Archbishop Spalding came into The Smith Center and beat the Gaels by 11 last week, but Mount St. Joe recovered with an 18-point win over Annapolis Area Christian.
- Lake Clifton (13-4)
This week’s games: vs Ben Franklin, vs Parkside
The Lakers remain steady picking up two wins this past week over Dunbar and Digital Harbor. The remainder of their schedule will be dedicated towards sharpening up for the city title game against Poly.
- City (17-2)
This week’s games: vs Digital Harbor
City rebounded with a dominant win over Southwestern 100-48. 2020 Dominick Carrington had the best scoring outing that we’ve seen this year by recording 50 points on 14 three’s. The Knights will have one more game before they prepare for the state tournament that will likely match them up against Poly in a second-round meeting.
- New Town (18-1)
This week’s games: vs Landsdowne, @ Parkville
The Titans remain in control of their destiny for the slot in the county title game. They can cement their position with a win over Parkville this Friday. The Knights are a much-improved team, but the Titans have proved to be a force when tested this season. It should be a great match up.
- Archbishop Spalding (15-9)
This week’s games: vs Mt. Carmel, vs Goretti
Spalding picked up a monumental win at Mt. Saint Joe that moved them into third place of the red division. With two more wins this week, they’ll solidify their position for the MIAA playoff picture.
- John Carroll (20-8)
This week’s games: vs Gilman, @ Calvert Hall, vs Loyola
The Patriots collected three wins last week, which makes the race from 3-5 in the red division even tighter. Every game from here on out holds importance for John Carroll, especially the last game of the week against Loyola.
- Edmondson (15-4)
This week’s games: vs Southwestern
The Red Storm picked up two more wins last week as they approach their final game of the season. The focus then turns to state playoff play as they look to make another run, but it won’t be easy as the 2A has gotten tougher than in years past.
- Mervo (12-5)
Next week’s games: @ Patterson
The Mustangs secured two wins last week. One coming at Dunbar after a 15-year drought the Poets’ gym. They’ll look to end the regular season on a high note with a win over Patterson in preparation to make a run in the Class 4A State Playoffs.
