Arkansas Valley-Chisholm Trail (I)
Derby, Campus, Hutchinson, Maize, Newton, Salina Central, Salina South
Sterling Chapman, 6’4, G, 2021, Campus
One of the state’s most talented guards in the 2021 class, Chapman has a high basketball IQ and nice handles. He has good size for his position and the frame, strength and agility needed to make plays inside the paint and around the basket as both a defensive player and offensive one. Chapman has a good outside shot as well, able to extend the floor with his range and then burst inside and score off the glass and around the rim.
Keither Florence, 6’7, F, 2021, Campus
An impressive forward for Campus who has elite size, length and the ability to make athletic plays through the air. Florence has a great rhythm to his game and is an excellent shot-blocker, defensive rebounder and put back scorer. He makes athletic plays look easy and is one of the more dynamic transition players in the area as he can finish over opponents and through contact.
Jacob Hanna, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Maize
A physical, tough player to slow down who has a strong frame and good athleticism. Hanna is great at attacking the basket off the bounce and can push his way through the lane and score. He runs the floor and can finish at the rim in transition. He can shoot well, but is a finisher in the paint. Hanna is averaging 13.6 points, 1.8 assists, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. Hanna is averaging 58 percent from the field, 37 percent from 3-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line, hitting 52-76.
AJ Johnson, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Salina South
At 6’3, Johnson brings a versatile, well-rounded skill set, able to play an inside-out brand of basketball to the floor in a way that gives him a lot of touches and opportunities. The leading scorer for the Cougars last season, Johnson’s numbers are up this season as he’s averaging 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Johnson also adds 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. Johnson fights through contact and looks to play an explosive, physical brand of basketball. A tough player who understands his role and knows how to play hard inside the perimeter.
