Jordan Frazier, James Clemens: Jordan had a very quiet night on offense, but brought several good intangibles to the game. He hustled back on defense when it seemed as if all was lost. He came over with the helpside defense and had a massive block. It’s important to slide your feet on defense and not run with the offense. The officials caught him on that, but his hustle was contagious despite the massive score spread.
Keenan Walker, James Clemens: Keenan brought 8 points to the table for the Jets. He showed heart early in the game, by diving on the floor for a lose ball calling a timeout. Every possession matters in playoff basketball and you need players who understand that. Keenan has the ability to double clutch his shot in mid air and finish amidst the big defender.
Christian Brooks, James Clemens: Christian is a player every coach HAS to have. When the Jets trailed by as many as 30+, he never gave up and he continued to compete. Early in the game, he really looked to run in transition. On the other side, he was not driving with a purpose. He would drive and be in mid air and then realize he had to make a decision and throw an errant pass or a wild shot. Later in the game, he showed the ability to hang in mid air and finish tough shots over defenders. He always made extra efforts on the boards and was relentless. He finished with 14 points to lead the Jets.
Christopher Lyle, Austin: Christopher did a lot of good things the entire night for the Black Bears. He started the game with a big follow on the glass. He roamed the paint amidst the 2-3 zone defense and found its weak spots. He got strong, fundamental rebounds with his elbows out. When contesting shots, he went straight up and avoided the foul. He loved getting the rebound and leading the charge the other way. He was able to guard bigger defenders and deny the ball. Going up against Dee Beckwith in the next round will prove to be his biggest challenge yet.
Kelton Petty, Austin: Kelton was a streaky scorer. He started the game hot with 9 points in the first quarter. He was all about attack, attack, attack. He could step out and shoot the ball confidently. He got to the line several times and was a very effective shooter. On defense, he anticipated passing lanes and was able to intercept the passes. He finished with 20 points leading the way for the Black Bears.
Tre Shackleford, Austin: Tre was all over the court. He was shifty and fell behind the zone for easy baskets, finishing strong at the rim. He was huge at keeping possessions alive whether his 5 offensive boards or tipping the ball out. He had a big steal and looked like Zion Williamson taking it away from Giannis. At times, he needs to get the rebound and find the guards rather than trying to be superman. Continue to excel in what you do and do it well.
