America’s Best 10 Available – Senior Shooting Guards
Who are the top available shooting guards in the country? Our Prep Hoops team gives you the best available options with a Top Ten.
(1). Josh Christopher of Mayfair (CA). “When driving to the rim, (Josh) Christopher continually overpowers defenders and finishes with relative ease at the rim. His ability to not only maneuver his way into the paint but also veer into the area makes it even more difficult for defenses to contain. Once in the paint, the 6-foot-4 guard dictates play at an efficient and unrelenting rate. He is able to recognize switches and recovered quickly to stay with his man on defense. Christopher surely has the potential to blossom into a stout man-to-man defender, especially when taking into account his high work rate on that side of the ball.” – Steve Zavala of Prep Hoops
(2). Kyree Walker of Hillcrest Prep (AZ). “Thick scoring wing who is an exceptional passer and loves getting downhill in traffic. He is an improving 3pt shooter and can pull-up from mid-range off the dribble. He can create separation to score it. He can obviously dunk the ball but doesn’t have to rely on that anymore in his game. His strength, IQ for the game and improving skill makes him attractive.” – Gregg Rosenberg of Prep Hoops
(3). Jayden Stone of Sunrise Christian (KS). A 6-foot-3 shooting guard that is originally from Alabama but is now at Sunrise Christian. Ranked 134th nationally by our Prep Hoops staff is a smooth scorer with the skills to hit off the one dribble separation. There is range to Stone’s shooting touch both catching to hit with feet set or after clearing his defender, and he can attack a defense with either hand. Works hard has a position defender showing off strong court IQ.
(4). Devin Carter of Doral Academy (FL). “The six-foot-four (Carter) has another gear in his step and can get to the rim as well as any player in South Florida. Carter is still a free agent right now when it comes to his college recruitment and is one of the most sought after players in the region. Carter makes it look effortless out there and he really knows how to carry a team on his shoulders.” – Michael Costeines of Prep Hoops
(5) Donovan Williams of Lincoln North Star (NE). At about 195 pounds standing a true 6-foot-5, Williams attacks defenders with more size/power than most high school players are able to do. The ability of Donovan to be consistent but also turn up his game and take over at key times is something that has stayed with me after seeing him play multiple times. That size allows Williams to complete possessions plus he can hit from the perimeter as well. Good handles and a strong rebounder.
(6) Kario Oquendo of Titusville (FL). “A 6-foot-6 guard that is loaded with upside and can score in a variety of ways. He is a boomer as a dunker and I’m shocked that he hasn’t taken down a rim at some point in his career. His push in transition is hard to stop and I don’t blame defenders who don’t want to get in his way. He is a strong and dangerous athlete.” – Jake Perper of Prep Hoops
(7) Antwan Burnett of Sindey Lanier (AL). “Since returning (to Alabama) in mid-December (Antwan) has been very impressive averaging 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assist a game. His improved ability to play the point guard position at times has vastly improved his stock. If he stays on track in the classroom his aspirations of playing big-time college basketball next season is looking more and more like a real possibility.” – Derik Williams of Prep Hoops
(8) Amound Anderson of Leuzinger (CA). “The 6-foot-3 guard is one of the top scorers in Southern California. Amound is simply a microwave, he can score in multiple ways and has potential to get hot fast. He also keeps defenders honest, and teams cannot sag off of him. Colleges who are looking for a player who can score and initiate the offense need to immediately take a look at Anderson.” – David Vuong of Prep Hoops
(9) Sincere Parker of AZ Compass Prep (AZ). “IL transfer has a strong build/frame and can shoot it from the parking lot. One of the top shooters in the state. He has a stronger build and once he sees one goes in, it is over. He will rattle off more quickly. He is a good rebounder, has good strength and defends well.” – Gregg Rosenberg of Prep Hoops
(10) Dylan Branson of Mehlville (MO). “His court vision is excellent and at 6-foot-5 he can see over any defender and hit a teammate with a pinpoint pass. A physical guard that is one of the state’s best passers.” – Earl Austin Jr
