Continue ReadingPutnam City North celebrated its senior-night festivities Friday with an in-city win against Putnam City to close the curtain on the regular season. Despite an early lead taken by Putnam City, the Pirates were unable to dodge the fiery transition play of the Panthers, which snowballed in the second half. Jeremiah Johnson led all performers with 24 points.
Best actor in a leading role– Jeremiah Johnson | 2023 CG | Putnam City North
Johnson was en fuego Friday night, playing just about unstoppable. The freshman standout notched 24 points while recording six steals and four assists. Johnson knocked a trio of 3-pointers, but also had a couple mid-range conversions and finished the ball well at the rim. Had a couple rim-robbers given him more lenience, Johnson could have had a 30-ball.
Best antagonist — Marcus Graves | 2020 PF | Putnam City
The least forgiving of all defenders was Graves, who notched at least six denials near the goal, protecting the rim and making North ball-handlers weary of attacking the basket. Graves’ big body, fitness, explosiveness, stature and awareness allowed him to have one of the best defensive performances seen by the Prep Hoops OK staff in 2020.
Best actor in a supporting role — Jeff Nwankwo | 2021 SF | Putnam City North
Should it not be forgotten the outstanding night Nwankwo had. The junior rising prospect amassed 16 points as the pseudo-side-kick to Johnson’s dramatic justice. He was habitually prepared to grab a rebound for a put-back, take a ball from the dribble and catch a long pass in transition.

In addition to a great helping performance, Nwankwo wowed the crowd with two explosive dunks; one for each half. The theatrics were at their peak.
Costume design — Putnam City
The Pirates wore their Nike Elite alternate road uniforms Friday evening, a black top and bottom featuring orange and white stripes around the collar and sleeves with simple white lettering a numbering surrounded by orange trim — a classic.
