Jemarcus is a senior prospect from Fort Bend Elkins High School. Elkins went 20-14 on the season this year and had an early first-round exit from the playoffs. Jemarcus was a transfer student from Fort Bend Dulles where he averaged 18 points per game last season and was an All-District first team member last season. Since he transferred into a new school he had to sit out for the first half of the season. The Knights were 13-11 overall and 1-4 in district play before he was allowed to play. His on-court effectiveness brought about a turnaround and they went 7-3 (7-2 in district) and made it to the playoffs.
Jemarcus is long and athletic with a long wingspan. He can take his opponent off the dribble to the rim. He has the ability to score from all levels on the floor and can play above the rim. He is solid on the defensive side of the ball in both on-ball and guarding in the post at times. Solid without the ball in his hands as well and sets good screens. Crashes the glass and will challenge shots at the rim. He has a toughness within his competitiveness that allows him to bring about wins for the team that he plays on.
How are you doing? Good ! Feeling blessed. What area of your game has improved the most from last season to this season? I believe my court vision and defense has improved the most. I’ve been beating defenders to their spots and forcing more turnovers. What drives you to play the game, who is your inspiration to give it all you have every time you play? My mom and my brothers keep me going. It was already hard for us to go through poverty when my dad passed. Every tear my mom shed gives me another reason to go harder. My dad passing also showed me that you never know when it’s your time, so I want to make a name for myself before my time is up. How is your recruitment looking right now what schools have offered and what schools have been in contact with you? I have official offers from Bethel and McMurry. I’ve spoken with McPherson, UST, Lamar, Seton Hill, and St. Andrews University. Bethel and McMurry have shown a lot of interest and plan on taking visits there soon. I feel like coach Bobby and the rest of the Houston Raptors staff have helped get my name out there to help my recruitment. What do you like about Bethel and about McMurray? I like how they are always asking questions outside of basketball. They always ask how my family doing, how are my grades, and what kind of crowd I’m hanging with. Questions like those let me know that they actually care about my well being. Tell me about transferring. Transferring schools helped me in the classroom. Not being on the court with my brothers for the first half of the season did hurt me on the inside, but my grades have been excellent. My return to the court gave the team a little more confidence. Some of the players on the team were my former teammates in middle school so the chemistry was already there. This season I’ve averaged 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.7 steals per game. Even though I didn’t average as many points as last season. Every other section on that stat sheet went up. As well as my leadership skills and ability to impact the game on the defensive side of the ball.
