Ky’Juan Oden- 5’10 Junior Point Guard/Indian River. Ky’Juan Oden was one of the most exciting players on the court during this game. Built like his older brother, Ky’Juan is a gunslinger at heart, and has a plethora of moves at his disposal to help him score. During the game he played hard on defense, then came down to provide the scoring punch. He showed off a nasty pull up jumper, a smooth step back jumper and deep, deep range from 3. At one point in the fourth Oscar Smith took the lead and the crowd went ballistic, only for Ky’Juan to come down and nail a 30 footer. Oden has a very good chance at being one of the top scorers in the area next year, and finished the night with 24 points.
Torrey Jordan Jr- 6’3 Senior Combo Guard/Oscar Smith. Torrey Jordan is a fierce competitor. This is on display every game as Jordan serves as the glue player on his team. He does everything, whether driving, flashing to the corner on the fast break, pushing the ball in transition, or dishing to the open man. Perhaps most impressive is his willingness to check the best scorer on the court. Kahlil Oden may have been hindered by his hip in the second half, but he was also hindered by Jordan switching on to him and checking him in the second half. With his quickness and length, Jordan can guard either the 1 or the 2 spot, and is a great pickup for any college looking for a do it all guard.
Calvin Thomas– 6’7 Senior Center/Oscar Smith. Calvin Thomas is a tank of a player. At 6 foot 7 and built like a defensive end, Thomas carves out space easily in the paint. Against an active Indian River front court, Thomas held his own, bringing down rebounds and finishing in the paint. He also showed off potential range as he nailed a deep two pointer at the end of the third. With his frame and strength, Thomas already has some offers, but could pull in even more as the playoffs approach.
Kenny Hodges- 6’6 Senior Forward/Indian River. Kenny Hodges proved to be a tough match up, even for the large front court of Oscar Smith. Gifted with a powerful frame, Hodges was a rebounding machine all night, snagging the boards and tossing it out to his guards. On top of his rebounding, finishing in the paint was a struggle for Oscar Smith, due to Hodges patrolling and swatting whatever came near him. While he did not receive a large amount of touches on offense, Hodges made his mark by put backs, hustle points and a big dunk, a powerful finish on multiple Smith players in traffic. Due to his frame and high motor, expect the interest from colleges in need of energetic big men to rise as the season comes to a close.
