In District 13-6A Vandegrift went undefeated with a 16-0 record, with Hendrickson (11-5), Leander (10-6), and Round Rock Westwood (10-6) also earning playoff berths.
Austin Westlake also went undefeated at 16-0 in District 25-6A, with Bowie (11-5), Anderson (11-5), and Hays (10-6) rounding out the top-four standings.
All eight teams will begin their state-title run this week in the Region 2&4 6A bracket.
Here are some players from the Austin-Metroplex to keep an eye on in the 6A playoffs:
Greg Brown III – Vandegrift – 6-9 Forward
Brown III, ranked the number four player in the country and number one overall in Texas, led the Vipers to a 31-2 record his senior season and will enter the playoffs with a good chance at a state-title run. Brown III is a double-double machine as he averaged over 27 points and 13 rebounds per game this season. A versatile weapon from either forward position, look for Brown III to continue his dominant play well into the playoffs. Brown III is currently uncommitted but has a top-five of Auburn, Kentucky, Memphis, North Carolina, and Texas.
KJ Adams – Westlake – 6-7 Forward
Adams, who already supports a college-built physique as a junior, led the Chaparrals to a 32-1 record this season. Adams has been quickly rising up the rankings and now sits as the fourth overall player in Texas for the 2021 class. A long-athletic wing who can score from deep, but also play physical in the paint, will be hard to miss as he fills up the stat sheet for the Chaps.
Max Smith – Anderson – 6-1 Point Guard
Smith, ranked number 56 in Texas as a senior, is a pure scorer, to say the least. Whether it’s finishing at the rim, hitting floaters in the paint, or nailing shots from beyond the arc, Smith can score from anywhere on the court and score in bunches. Over the final four games of the regular season, Smith averaged just north of 29 points per game, with a 31 point performance in a road loss to Hays in the season finale.
Ma’Shy Hill – Hendrickson – 6-8 Forward
If you are looking for a breakout freshman in this year’s playoffs, Hill has to be near the top of the list. Standing at 6-foot-8, Hill is a difference-maker in the paint for the Hawks with his shot-blocking ability and dominant presence on the boards. Hill is currently ranked the number five overall prospect in Texas for the 2023 class, and expect his stock to continue to rise over the next three seasons of his high school career.
Coleton Benson – Bowie – 6-1 Shooting Guard
Benson, a combo-guard for the Bulldogs who ranks as the number 32 junior prospect in Texas, is a sharpshooter from behind the three-point line. Benson can create his own shot but also excels as a spot-up shooter. For Bowie to advance through the playoffs they need Benson to get hot from beyond that arc as he did during district play.
Honorable mention:
Eain Mowat – Westlake – 6-0 Point Guard
Blake Spiller – Anderson – 6-3 Shooting Guard
Cade Holzman – Bowie – 6-5 Forward
Carlos Rocha – Hays – 6-4 Forward
Gabe Rayer – Vandegrift – 6-6 Forward
Noah Robeldo – Leander – 6-6 Forward
Christian Robinson – Round Rock Westwood – 6-2 Small Forward
Carson King – Round Rock Westwood – 6-5 Center
Jaden Williams – Hendrickson – 5-10 Guard
