Bessemer City 41, Hartselle 40
Thaddeus Williams, Bessemer City: Trailing by 2 with 7 seconds to go, Thaddeus Williams let the three pointer fly and knocked it down to send the Bessemer City Tigers to Birmingham. He perfectly came off the double screen, shedding his defender and getting space to knock it down. Coach called his number and he delivered. He shot well from the perimeter going 3-6 and finishing with 18 points and 5 rebounds.
Brody Peebles, Hartselle: He led all scorers with 24 points. The Liberty commit has huge upside for a senior season. He’s a natural scorer and can do it all at all three levels. He’s a coach’s dream athlete. He works extremely hard and is extremely coachable.
Huffman 76, Pinson Valley 74
Dequarrin Ezell, Huffman: He was ferocious on defense all night keeping Kam Woods at bay (well, 34 points). He was quick and aggressive. He finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds. He was named the Regional MVP.
James Burgess, Huffman: Down 69-66 in the final seconds of regulation, James Burgess hit the biggest shot of his life to tie the game against Pinson Valley and force overtime. Huffman played with a chip on his shoulder after being eliminated by Pinson last year on a buzzer beater. He returned the favor this year and finished with 16 points.
Kam Woods, Pinson Valley: Heartbreak can really only be the word that describes Kam Woods’ last game as a Pinson Valley Indian. He poured his heart and soul into his team. He was on a quest to lead his team to back-to-back 6A state titles. It was his team’s first loss since December and the third to Huffman this season. He had 17 points in the first half trying to keep pace with the Huffman Vikings. In the final minutes of regulation, he absolutely took over with a a personal 9-1 run. However, Kam fouled out with less than 2 minutes to go when his team needed him most. The kid will have an incredible career at the next level and will be a steal for the team he decides to sign with. He finished with 34 points.
