Host Lemont came into the game with a 13-10 record while Oak Forest had a spectacular 24-1 mark. Lemont jumped out fast behind their star Kyle Lillwitz. Oak Forest fought back and it was tight almost the entire night. In a double OT thriller Oak Forest survived 63-58! Here are our 5 Takeaways: Oak Forest vs Lemont!
Robbie Avila is the Truth in 2022
What a performance from top 5 sophomore Robbie Avila. The 6-8 power forward is an uber skilled face up four that can stretch the floor with his shooting and score with efficiency around the hoop. Early on he was dominant on the boards recording double digits rebounds n the first half alone. He has an excellent feel for where it is coming off the glass and snatching them at their high point. Offensively he displayed touch scoring on put backs and making quick moves with the ball. Did hit one three on the night finishing with 19 points and 15 rebounds. High-major future for this kid!
Oak Forest Perimeter Play
Oak Forest has a trio of quality perimeter players. Jayson Kent is the most well-known of the trio. Long and lanky 6-6 shooting guard that is mostly known for his perimeter shooting. Did connect on one three and a smooth mid-range pull up. Struggled a bit shooting it in this game though. Showed some more straight line attack ability than we had seen in the past. Finished one sweet euro step. Netted 14 points on the evening. Getting heavy looks at both the D1 and D2 levels. Juan Avila is the older brother of Robbie. The senior has good size at 6-4 with the ability to shoot. Moves well away from the ball and can post up smaller defenders. He had 16 points. The third senior guard is 5-8 guard Devin Tolbert. The point guard has solid speed and took it to the hoop where he was often fouled and then converted his free throws. Went for 8 points.
Passing and Cutting by Oak Forest Impressive
One area that we came away very impressed with was the way Oak Forest moved away from the ball. They did it for threes, but often times it was cutting toward the basket where their teammates would hit them on the move for buckets. I’ve never quite seen a high school team throw as many skip passes effectively either as Oak Forest did in this contest either.
Kyle Lillwitz Shows Out
Lemont senior wing Kyle Lillwitz is a lefty small forward that committed to Lawrence University in the last week. He came out on fire! The wing displayed a clean looking three point shot along with a crafty all-around scoring game. His shot fakes followed by step in mid-range jumpers were absolutely lethal in this contest. Lillwitz went for 25 points including 13 in the first quarter. He was helped out by a big outing from point guard Kyle Kostes. The junior guard drilled several huge threes and scoop shots en route to 18 points.
Lemont Defense
Lemont did a nice job of constantly keeping pressure on Oak Forest throughout the night. They pressured the ball, got in passing lanes, and contested perimeter shots. Caused quite a few turnovers by Oak Forest. Despite Avila’s big night they actually did a solid job of not allowing him to get as many touches as he should have in the paint.
