Continue ReadingPerry Hall hosted Dulaney last night for a Baltimore County match up. The game also held some weight to the 4A North standing as we approach state tournament play. Dulaney was without their 2021 point guard Ryan Conway as he finished nursing a sprained foot. Conway will be back in time for the playoffs and I was told if he absolutely had to suit up last night, he would have. His services weren’t needed as the Lions trounced the Gators from start to finish as indicated by a final score of 79-58. Dulaney will remain in first place in the 4A North standings, which gives them home court advantage through the regional semifinals at the least.
Here were five intriguing prospects from the contest:
Cam Byers | Dulaney ’20
Byers asserted his dominance from the start as the 6-foot-5 forward scored a game-high 26 points in the win. He used his physical frame to create space when he had the ball around the basket and finished strong through contact. Byers also converted on two triples off catch-and-shoot scenarios. There weren’t many opportunities for Byers to dominate the glass with Perry Hall’s turnovers caused by the full court press. Instead, Byers stood out with his energy and filling the lanes on the break.
T.J. Moore | Perry Hall ’21
Moore is a raw 6-foot-9 forward who has a lot of work to do, but his length and frame certainly catch your eye immediately. He still needs development in just about every aspect of his game, but he did show soft touch around the rim, ability to knock down free-throws and rebound with some aggression. If he got into the right hands of a developmental trainer, Moore could be a very intriguing prospect for the next level.
Jaylin Webster | Dulaney ’21
Webster took over as primary ball handler and play maker off the bounce for the Lions in Conway’s absence. He played well, scoring 13 points and consistently making good decisions in transition while finding open teammates. The 6-foot guard was also locked in as a front man in their full court press and got his hands on multiple passes that manufactured into turnovers for Perry Hall.
Latrell Harper | Dulaney ’21
Harper was another player who saw more opportunities come his way last night. The 6-foot-1 guard attacked the rim and finished through contact on multiple occasions in the half court after beating his man. He was on the receiving end of Webster’s lob passes in transition, in which he finished as a lay up (not a dunk). Harper pressured the ball effectively without fouling and anticipated accurately while in the passing lanes.
Jaylen Amoruso | Dulaney ’21
I’m not sure there’s a player in the area with more energy than Amoruso. The 6-foot-3 guard seems to never get tired even though he’s sprinting 100 percent of the time when he’s on the floor. As a result, he makes life chaotic for the opponent when he is the top guy on their 1-2-2 full court trapping press. He finished with nine points, most of which came in transition where he showcased explosive athleticism.
