Jaylen Davis, Madison Central – If there’s a player in the class that you should buy stock in right now, I’d have to take Davis. He’s grown physically and as a player in the last year and he doesn’t appear to be slowing down in his growth spurt any time soon. As he gets more used to his long frame, he’s going to continue developing his game. Already a 40% shooter from three, Jaylen will continue improving as a slasher and finisher. As his body fills out, Davis could be a big time wing prospect.
Chandler Starks, Covington Catholic – One of the few bigs in the class that we’ve seen thus far, Starks actually lives in Ohio but attends Cov Cath. He’s averaging 7 points and 6 rebounds per game for a veteran Colonel team. Chandler possesses some post skill but doesn’t get a ton of lift in the games I’ve watched. Assuming he grows a couple more inches, Starks should thin out and get more athletic. He should be a key component of Cov Cath’s roster next year.
Ian Higdon, North Oldham – Ian may be the most efficient scorer in his class this high school season. He’s scoring the ball at 64% from the field but the next step in his game is to become a more effective perimeter scorer. He hasn’t even attempted a three this season and will need to add that aspect to his game in the near future so that defenses will respect him as a threat from outside. Right now, Higdon is a long athletic forward with a bright future if he reaches potential.
Kenyon Goodin, Butler – Kenyon is probably a top 10 or better player in the class. He routinely stars on the AAU circuit but has not played any varsity for Butler this season. Goodin has great positional size and is a big time slasher off the wing who continues to improve as a catch and shoot player. He’s grown up around the game (his dad is Butler’s coach) and has a high IQ you expect from a kid who has grown up in the gym. Look for him to have a big summer of AAU and be an impact player next season at the high school level.
Cam McClain, Trinity – McClain has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Rocks over the course of the season and is gaining extremely valuable experience for a young Trinity squad this season. Assuming Cam continues to grow, he projects as a solid combo guard prospect. If he doesn’t grow, he’ll need to transition to more of an on ball role. Either way, McClain is getting better each game and is a player who could eventually work into the top 10 or so of the class depending on how everyone develops in the coming seasons.
