There’s plenty of talent in the state of Tennessee. More and more talented players are being discovered in the 2021 class.
Here’s a list of players in the class that have played well so far in the 2019 season:
Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: McMullen is averaging 17 points, three assists and two steals per game.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: Smith is averaging 17.6 points, 3.9 assists, 3.8 steals and 3.6 rebounds per game.
Matthew Sells, Livingston Academy: Sells is averaging 26.4 points, six rebounds and four assists per game.
Kameron Jones, ECS: Jones is averaging 19 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game, while shooting 51 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from 3-point range.
Isaiah Jones, East Nashville: Jones is averaging 15.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Zion Swader, Siegel: Swader is averaging 14 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals per game.
Matthew Schneider, Siegel: Schneider is averaging 18 points, six rebounds and one steal per game.
Jaylan Wetzel, Siegel: Wetzel is averaging 15 points, three rebounds and two steals per game.
Riggs Abner, Mt. Juliet: Abner is averaging 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.2 steals per game in 19 minutes of action.
Alex Anderson, Tipton–Rosemark Academy: Anderson is averaging 25 points, 14.5 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and two steals per game.
Josh Ward, FACS: Ward is averaging 10.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in a reserve role.
Taki Walker, Fayette Ware: Walker is averaging 10.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, six assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Tyler Fitzpatrick, Fayette Ware: Fitzpatrick is averaging 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, two assists and 1.4 steals per game.
Jordan Hamilton, Cordova: Hamilton is averaging 11.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Calvin Jennings, Cordova: Jennings is averaging 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Amarion Jones, Westwood: Jones is averaging 11.5 points, 4.4 assists, 3.9 steals and 1.2 rebounds per game.
Jordan Jenkins, Collierville: Jenkins is averaging 10.8 points, 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game.
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: Chandler is averaging 23 points, four rebounds and four assists per game.
David Dixon, MAHS: Dixon is averaging 18 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks per game.
Moussa Cisse, Lausanne: Cisse is averaging 19.3 points, 13 rebounds and 10.2 blocks per game.
Three players in the class are averaging double-digits in scoring for Houston. Alden Applewhite is leading the way with 14.3 points per game. Mason Miller is averaging 12 points. T.J. Madlock is averaging 11.4 points.
Grant Slatten, White County: Slatten is averaging 26.4 points, five rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
Daveonne Warfield, Kirby: Warfield is averaging 16.3 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals per game.
Bobby Westbrooks, St. Benedict: Westbrooks is averaging 16 points per game.
Tadarius Jacobs, Memphis East: Jacobs is averaging 14.5 points and seven rebounds per game.
Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: Lawson is coming off a 50-point, 10-rebound and 10-assist performance in a 112-96 win over Hamilton this week. In the Cardinals’ first meeting against the Wildcats, the 6-foot-8 point guard had 25 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists. In an 83-72 loss to Callaway in the Lighthouse Classic, Lawson finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and one block. In Wooddale’s season-opening win at Hillcrest, Lawson had 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Lawson should be a candidate for Mr. Basketball in TSSAA Class AA. He’s having a solid year.
