With the FHSAA regional tournament gearing up this week and the SIAA playoffs upon us, here is the third and final part of the 2020 unsigned sleepers list which includes eight players.
ICYMI:
Osei Price (Pembroke Pines Charter)
Coming from Montverde, 2020 6’5″ guard Osei Price has really made a difference for Pembroke Pines this season as it sits at 22-2. The Jaguars travel to Northwestern tonight in a Class 5A-Region 4 Quarterfinal. Price holds offers from Stetson, Bethune Cookman, Canisius, UNC Asheville and UNF. Price is packed with leaping ability, a reliable jumper and very wise decision making. A legitimate Division I athlete, he is going to make any college program happy with his work ethic and scoring prowess.
Jaylen Harper (Lake Nona)
For Lake Nona, 2020 6’4″ guard Jaylen Harper is the clear alpha and the guy who has made some huge shots for his squad all year long. Harper clinched the Class 7A-District 5 Championship for his side with a game-winning layup with less than three seconds left as the Lions won 50-49 over Oak Ridge. Harper scored 20 points and will have to do everything and more to get past Oak Ridge once again in Thursday night’s rematch in the Class 7A-Region 2 Quarterfinal. Regardless of the outcome, Harper is a very under the radar prospect who can come into a Division II or NAIA team right now and play.
Mayoum Mayoum (Potter’s House Christian)
Speed and finishing at the rim are what 2020 6’4″ Australian born guard Mayoum Mayoum is all about. Ever since he came to the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo in 2017 and went head to head with Niven Glover, he’s been a known commodity in circuit play with 1Family and in the SIAA with Potter’s House Christian. Having another rock solid season, Mayoum is a determined guard who always pushes the ball in transition and tries to score while going downhill. He has offers from Boise State, Wyoming, McNeese State, Stetson and Canisius right now and would fare well at any of those Division I spots.
Nathan Montaque (Somerset Academy)
Somehow no offers have come yet for 2020 6’6″ forward Nathan Montaque. A natural shooter, he is a big body who can grab rebounds and get tip-backs. He has interest from Western Carolina, Ball State, Stetson, Barry, Lincoln Memorial, Palm Beach State and Eastern Illinois right now. Any of those schools would be happy to get him and make him even stronger in his upper body and quicker with the ball. He is an undersized four man with guard skills and I’ve seen him play through pain many times. Most recently, I saw him play through a major ankle sprain to score 24 points against Gulliver Prep in a Dec. 13 loss in the inaugural Sun Bash Miami.
Max Jones (Clearwater)
It has been quite a season for Clearwater (22-4) and its senior leader Max Jones who host Mariner in the Class 5A-Region 3 Quarterfinal tonight. The 6’5″ guard took the reigns this season and added a good amount of muscle in the summer. Averaging 21.9 PPG, 8.5 RPG and 4.0 APG, Jones has been steady all year long, reaching double digits in all but one game. At the 3rd annual Sun Bash Tampa, he guided his Tornadoes to a BASH bracket title while averaging 25 PPG featuring a 30-point outing in a 54-53 win in the first round over Sickles. Jones had the game-winning bucket in that win (video) and was aggressive and poised all week long for his side. Eckerd and Tampa are his offers right now but more Division II teams would be wise to jump in.
Gyasi Powell (Bishop Snyder)
Over at Bishop Snyder, the Class 3A Cardinals just missed out on the playoffs this season but one senior had a very nice year in 2020 6’1″ guard Gyasi Powell. He averaged 20.4 PPG, 5.3 APG and 5.4 RPG this season. Powell dropped 32 points, a season-high against both Wildwood and Atlantic Coast. He has no offers yet but has drawn interest from North Georgia, St. Leo, Fort Hays State, USC Aiken, Clayton State and Davis & Elkins. A confident and high IQ point man, Powell’s 3-point shot is seasoned and his toughness is always on display. A Division II or NAIA program needs to get on him as soon as possible.
Osyon Jones (Bishop Moore)
Not only the top scorer for Bishop Moore this season, 2020 6’4″ guard Osyon Jones but is also a great student in the classroom. He earned a 25 on his ACT and a 4.0 GPA. Jones averaged 12.9 PPG for a Hornets group that graduated a deep senior class from last season including Virginia freshman guard Hunter Cattoor. Jones is a crafty finisher, reliable shooter and a vision passer. A Division III program would be ideal for him in the fall.
Darius Webb (Admiral Farragut)
A lightning bolt running an offense, 2020 5’11” Admiral Farragut guard Darius Webb is taking for granted because of his size but he is a winner. This season, he has run the point with ease for his team and it is showing with his lay-ins and his impressive passing. Webb has all the speed in the world and would be a great fit at a Division II or Division III program in need of a confident and fast point guard.
