With the FHSAA regional tournament gearing up this week and the SIAA playoffs upon us, here is a look at some 2020 unsigned sleepers that caught my attention this season.
Ricardo Wright (The Villages)
2020 6’4″ guard Ricardo Wright has been instrumental to The Villages Charter’s success this season, averaging 21.6 PPG for the Buffalo. A transfer from Eustis, the senior has netted double digits in all but three of the 26 games played this season. He helped The Villages beat Central in the Class 4A-District 6 championship last week. The Buffalo play host to North Marion in the 4A region quarterfinal on Thursday. Wright had a 40-point outing, a single-game school record in December against Seffner Christian. The lengthy athlete is all business and has taken over the alpha role left behind UF freshman Tre Mann. With offers from Stetson, UNF and FGCU, Wright is going to be a steal for any Division I program, he’s a freakish athlete with a high IQ (VIDEO HERE).
Eric Lee (Surge Christian)
Another lengthy athlete in the state of Florida resides at Surge Christian. 2020 6’4″ guard Eric Lee has boomed over the last year and half between AAU ball with Team Speights on the Prep Hoops Circuit and with his high school squad, Superior Collegiate previously. Now at Surge Christian, Lee is thriving as a tough nosed defender and high energy shooter and attacker. He’s hearing the most from UNC Asheville, Rice, Morehead State and New Orleans. He said he’s planning visits to Morehead State and New Orleans after the season. Lee is a great kid on and off the court who will make a Division I team instantly better.
Jadrian Tracey (West Oaks)
Making the move from Oldsmar Christian to West Oaks, 2020 6’5″ guard/forward Jadrian “Bam” Tracey settled in quickly with the Flame. Playing alongside AAU (Team Breakdown) teammate and close friend Selton Miguel, a Kansas State signee has raised Tracey’s game this season. A high IQ kid, Tracey has always had the tools and mindset to win 1-on-1 battles, but he’s become calmer and more seasoned as a distributor and he’s simply having fun out there. Saint Joseph’s offered in December while Canisius, Murray State, Tennessee Tech and FIU all have offers out to him. Delaware, UCF, Illinois State, Drake, East Carolina and Pittsburgh have shown interest as well to the two-guard.
Ivan Reynolds (Dillard)
The guard trend continues on this list with 2020 6’4″ guard Ivan Reynolds. The Dillard senior who arrived via transfer from Coral Springs Charter. He’s been super consistent, reaching double digits most nights for a 20-7 Dillard program that beat Blanche Ely in the Class 6A-District 14 title game last week. Reynolds is a hard working young man who can get to the basket on his own, create for others and make sure to push the ball in transition. His jumper is consistent as well. UNF represents his lone offer while many Division I and Division II squads should be inquiring about him right now.
CJ Matthews (Choctaw)
A clutch shooter and a determined one at that, 2020 6’3″ guard CJ Matthews has averaged 12.1 PPG for Choctaw. Fresh off a Class 5A-District 1 championship over Gulf Breeze, Choctaw is set up for success this postseason. Matthews had a huge game on the opening day of the 3rd annual Sun Bash in Tampa on Jan. 2 with a 3-pointer in the waning seconds to force overtime and then a 3-pointer to open up overtime as he finished with 18 points and guided his team to a win. A winner and a leader, Matthews is an underrated talent from the panhandle who should be garnering Division I and Division II looks.
