Top 4 Seeds Overview
The Top 8 seeds in the 1A State Playoffs will receive a first-round bye. Here’s an overview of the Top 4 seeds:
1. Trinity Christian (Fayetteville) (24-2)
The Trinity Christian Crusaders fell 58-57 in the Sandhills Conference Tournament Championship, but it was one of only two losses so far this season and with a talented group of Cam Oates, Freddie Dilione, Marcus Boykin and Todd Burt, they’re due to make a deep run in the state playoffs. It won’t be a surprise to see them in this year’s state title game.
2. Greenfield School (27-6)
The Greenfield School Knights are another team that lost in their Conference Tournament title game, but they’ve got an experienced group of seniors led by Dji Bailey, Trey Pittman and Creighton Lebo. They’re another squad to watch as a No. 2 seed in the playoffs. They’re 12-2 across their last 14 games.
3. The Burlington School (22-10)
The Burlington School Spartans went 10-0 in Mid-Carolina Conference action and took home the Conference Tournament title and now have a chance to take home a 2A NCISAA State title. They’ve had a few battles with some teams in this year’s field. JaDun Michael and Mylyjael Poteat will be two prospects to keep an eye on for them, as well as 2021 forward Kuluel Mading.
4. Northwood Temple (19-14)
The Northwood Temple Eagles earned a four-seed after losing to Trinity Academy in the Sandhills Conference Tournament Semifinals. Reggie Raynor took home the Sandhills Conference Player of the Year award despite their 5-5 finish. He averaged 19.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game on the year. He’ll be one to watch alongside senior Jay Hickman and sophomore JaQuantae Harris.
Sleeper Team to Watch: United Faith (14-12)
The United Faith Christian Academy Falcons are a sleeper team to watch in the NCISAA 2A State Playoffs. There’s a reason they’re still a No. 6 seed with a record of 14-12. Western Carolina commit Josh Massey is due to go out with a bang as is unsigned senior Anjay Cortez. 2021s guard Cedric Patterson and Mike Dudley still have more to prove as well. They’ve won five of their last six games and also went 5-2 in their conference during the regular season.
