However, with the regular season-ending and teams gearing up for Area, Regional, and State Championship runs here is a list of guys who placed a good bid throughout the season to be this year’s Alabama “Mr. Basketball.”
Tommy Murr Tommy Murr 6'1" | SG Lindsey Lane | 2020 State #456 Nation AL , 6’1 CG, Lindsay Lane: Who can deny the career and season that this Lipscomb University signee has had. With consistent 30, 40, and 50 piece chicken nuggets this season he is probably the front runner for this year’s award. His improved ability to put the ball on the floor and score off the bounce has made him a much more dangerous player. Hopefully, he can help lead his Lindsay Lane to a deep playoff run.
Kameron Woods Kameron Woods 5'11" | PG Pinson Valley | 2020 State AL , 5’11 PG, Pinson Valley: He has shown the ability this season to put the team on his back and do what it takes to win basketball games. With several 50 point games this season he has averaged over 30 points per game in the last month of the season making him a legit candidate for this award. With the possibility of winning his fourth straight (2 at Midfield, 1 at Pinson Valley) State Championship this season look for Kam to make a clear argument to be this year’s award winner.
Colby Jones Colby Jones 6'4" | SG Mountain Brook | 2020 State #122 Nation AL , 6’5 SG, Mountain Brook: The Xavier University signee has been a stat stuffer all season long. His ability to do everything on the floor from handling against pressure to scoring in the post, or coming up with the key rebound he has shown why he is ranked as the top player in the state in the class. He has a real shot at bringing home the award which would give the Mountain Brook program three straight Mr. Basketball award winners.
Tony Toney Tony Toney 6'2" | SG Mae Jemison | 2020 State AL , 6’2 SG, Mae Jemison: He burst onto the scene this year and with his play so far this season he undoubtedly deserves to be in this conversation. He has been the leader and best player on the floor majority of the nights for the Jaguars posting “Mr. Baskeball” type numbers. Leading the Jaguars to a storied season so far which has had them ranked in the top 5 in the state all season long. He may put pressure on the front runners if he can lead his team to a state championship.
JD Davison JD Davison 6'3" | PG Calhoun | 2021 State #10 Nation AL , 6’3 PG, Calhoun: You can’t have this award without mentioning this prospect. He has taken the state and country by storm with his play this season. Now with being considered one of the top 20 (#18 according to ESPN) prospects in the entire country he is for sure a legit contender for this award. From highlight dunks to incredible no-look passes his improved shooting ability is what has made him an elite prospect. With such highly rated seniors vying for the award he may not win it, but who knows he could make a push.
Antonio Kite Antonio Kite 6'1" | NA lbs | PG Anniston | 2022 State #240 Nation AL , 6’2 PG, Anniston: “Spoodie” at only a sophomore is more than worthy at being mentioned as one of the top players in the state. With viral videos himself this season from the likes of Overtime, House Of Highlights, and Mr. Filayyy himself with a sick euro-step reverse layup he has done it all for the Bulldogs this season Leading them in points, assist, rebounds, and steals he has shown why he is the top-rated player in the class of 2022. He may not win the award this season, but will more than likely get one before his career is over.
Justin Buford Justin Buford 6'6" | SF Ellwood Christian | 2020 State AL , 6’7 PF, Montgomery Catholic: The big man has arrived on campus and made the Knights of Catholic state championship contenders. Posting several triple-doubles so far this season with the 3rd stat being blocks he has placed his name as one of the more impressive prospects in the state. His ability to knock down outside shots, score in the post and finish high above the rim at times have him look like a man against boys. He is a real dark horse for the award however he has been one of the highest stock-risers this season.
