The Huskies’ offense had an excellent first half and got off to an early 38-17 lead going into halftime. The Huskies did not stop there and they put up another 24 points in the third quarter and extended their lead to 36 points. In the fourth quarter, the Pioneers played hard and only scored one less point than the Huskies. But due to the fact that the Pioneers’ offense struggled through the first three quarters, the comeback efforts were too late and Edmond North improved to 15-4 while the Pioneers fell to 3-12.
MVP: Josh Price – Edmond North – G/F
Price had a huge game on Friday night for the Huskies and played hard for the entirety of the game. He was helping his team in every way possible as he lit up the scoreboard with points, played great defense, and crashed the glass on both ends of the floor. The Huskies will be hard to beat if he continues to play like this.
Play of the Game: Dalante Shannon‘s four-point play
In the second quarter, Dalante Shannon knocked down a three from at least six feet behind-the-arc and was fouled while doing it. Shannon knocked down the free throw and showed that he is unfazed by tight defense and that he has the confidence to shoot from anywhere.
Best Offensive Performance: Josh Price – Edmond North – G/F
Price is an extremely balanced offensive player and can seemingly score from anywhere. On Friday night Price was knocking down three’s, crashing the offensive glass, and finishing around the rim. Price finished with 20 points and made four three-pointers.
Best Defensive Performance: Max Gosney – Stillwater – F
Gosney is a starting forward for the Pioneers and had the task of guarding Abraham Aghasedo for part of the game which is definitely not easy. Gosney is a good low post defender and showed off his ability to block shots on Friday night.
Best Guy off the Bench: Bayden Reese – Stillwater – G
Reese came off the bench for the Pioneers and showed that he can be the first option on offense. He is a great finisher around the rim and he can finish through contact. Reese also has a nice floater and he plays good on-ball defense.
Best Intangibles: Sam Walker – Edmond North – G
Walker did all of the little things for the Huskies and he was a big reason that they were able to get off to a big lead early. He plays unselfishly, does not turn the ball over, and makes the right passes. Walker also always boxes out and prevents opposing guards to pull offensive rebounds.
Best Under-the-Radar Performance: Garrick Martin – Stillwater – G
Martin had the best game for the Pioneers and he was their leading scorer. He knocks down threes, finishes around the rim, and gets his teammates involved. Martin is a player to keep your eye on as he finishes out his senior season at Stillwater.
Best Underclassman: Bayden Reese – Stillwater – G
Reese is only a sophomore and plays like an upperclassman. He came off the bench and was the leading scorer for his team in the second half as he scored eight points. Reese also has a nice spin move that he uses to score around the rim. He is definitely a player to keep your eye on going forward.
Best Rebounder: Abraham Aghasedo – Edmond North – F
Aghasedo has excellent size and athleticism and he crashes the boards relentlessly. He is typically the biggest player on the court and he is very hard to get around as he is good at boxing out and high-pointing the ball.
Best Passer: Landry Harris – Edmond North – G
Harris is one of the best passers in the state and always gets his teammates involved. He excels at feeding the post and knows whether to dump it off or to finish in transition. He has a great feel for the game and has a high basketball I.Q.
