Archbishop Riordan finally beat Mitty on the road. The Crusaders were 0-20. It’s tough to win on the road in WCAL. Bryce Monroe 5’11, Sam Houston State commit led a second half charge to end the drought and put Riordan in first place in league. He led all scorer with 24pts.
Noah Yang 6’4 2020 wing from Willow Glen is quietly becoming one of the best shooters in the BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division. Yang has become a knock down shooter from mid-range out to the 3pt line. In the teams win over Sobrato, he was 3/3 from behind the line and made a game winning jumper from the elbow. He didn’t force any shots and was in rhythm, he finished with 13 pts.
Isaiah Minor 6’2 2022 shooting guard from Woodside put together a nice game in a losing cause. He’s quick, light on his feet, and decisive on his shooting whether driving it or shooting the long ball. When he drives he tends to finish with the inside hand, very effective. A good young prospect. He finished with 21 pts, 3 rebs, and 2 stls. His teammate Calvin Kapral is a good sized 2021 prospect at 6’6. He had a nice turnaround jumper in the key, he drives pretty well from the elbow and he hustles up the floor. He tends to pick up silly fouls and has to sit. He plays hard and can be effective inside with his size. 6 pts, 5 rebs, 2 blks.
Menlo Atherton took care of Woodside 79-31. It was hard to get a good read on how good this M-A team really is from this game, but Spencer Lin 6’3 2021 scored 11 pts on nice quick drives into the lane, while Nick Tripaldi a 6’0 2020 is a feisty quick release shooting guard who lit it up from outside with three 3’s to finish with 16pts, in only three qtrs. A ‘Marion McCoy 6’0 2021 came off the bench. He’s a good looking athlete who’s at his best in a fast pace game, he got most of his points in transition. He can cause problems on the defensive end with his speed, and lateral quickness. He handles the ball up top a lot, and likes to attack off the dribble. 12 pts, 3 stls.
Oakland Tech hands San Leandro a loss at home 64-57. Tech runs a 3 guard offensive attack, with Desonn Shipp 6’1 2020, who had 7 pts, 6 rebs, a good one on one player was hard to stop on the drive from up top. Dean Saleh 5’11, he has a nice mid-range jumper, but his three long 3’s is what did the most damage in this game, and Robel Zemmo a 6’0 2022 guard led the trio with 14 pts on 3’s and midrange shots. On the other side San Leandro has one of the better defensive players in Malik Merchant a 6’1 2021 guard who has improved his offensive skill set. He had 10pts. Merchant is an aggressive defender that gets right up under you and he’s hard to shake. At 6’4 Ciri Sawyers a 2020 post area player is a good leaper who’s very effective around the basket. He has the ability to rise off 2 feet quickly and dunk under the rim in traffic. He finished with 15pts, 2 dunks and Enrique Aguirre 6’5 2020 wing hit a couple of big 3’s in the corner to keep his team close finished with 13 pts.
