Here’s a look at what we learned in the Vikings’ 83-71 victory over the Panthers.
Jones and Pettiford stepped up big for South Granville
The South Granville Vikings got big games from 2020 wing Wy’kise Allen and 2021 guard Bobby Pettiford Jr. Both of them scored 23 points apiece to pace the Vikings on offense with eight points from Allen in the fourth quarter to lift the team to an easy win. Pettiford was himself on offense and was assertive in getting his teammates involved in the offense, dishing out four assists. He also had six steals. Allen also secured 15 rebounds, marking his fourth double-double in a row this season. As Pettiford and Allen combined for 46 points, they kept things from getting interesting to take control in the Northern Carolina Conference.
Terence Harcum Jr. is one of the top guards in the 2021 class
That’s no shade to what Bobby Pettiford Jr. can do when it’s said that Terence Harcum Jr. is one of the top guards in the 2021 class. Harcum put up a triple-double despite the result for the Panthers with 20 points, 12 assists, 11 rebounds and six steals for his squad. He’s producing 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 5.0 steals per game and should very well be considered Player of the Year at the 1A level. He’s a prospect that should begin to see a boost in his recruitment as the season progresses.
Jamari Mann is a sharpshooter from deep
The first half was the Jamari Mann Show for the most part for the Panthers as Mann drained five of his six 3-pointers in the second quarter to pace their offense. He ended up with 33 points, surpassing the 1,000-point plateau in his high school career, no small feat for the junior. He’s an underrated guard that continues to improve as his prep career moves along.
Kobe Jones is a dunking machine
2020 guard Kobe Jones continues to impress with his jaw-dropping dunks in-game. Jones had three dunks throughout the game that kept the momentum in the Vikings favor for the most part. He caught one in the first half off the rim and two more alley-oops in the second half that kept things in South Granville’s favor all night long.
