Westover pretty much took control of the game in the first half and would keep that control up until late in the 4th quarter after Terry Sanford made a big time run. However in the end, the Wolverines would come up with big time plays, taking home the win, 64-62.
Westover HS Junior Guard D ’Marco Dunn is a big time player: This was one of the first games this season that we got to see how he would respond while facing some personal adversity and he passed with flying colors. He picked up some fouls that would cause him to sit for an extended time in the third and fourth quarters. However once he returned he made big time play after play, including a monster three point shot that would give Westover the momentum once again. HM programs should be coming in to watch, he’s a special talent with high character and is a great student academically as well.
Terry Sanford Senior Forward Kyron Kelly Will be the perfect project player for a small college: He finished with a double/double of 18 points and 16 rebounds, with over half of his points coming from dunks in the paint. There are still some areas of the game where he needs work and the right college program could help him to continue to develop over time.
Westover HS Guard Darius Jewell is a Gamer: In the first half of this matchup he was simply on fire, scoring 15 points before the break and scoring in all types of ways. Known as a shooter from deep, he knocked down some treys but he also displayed the ability to make plays off the dribble and in the second half you saw him take on more of a facilitator role.
Terry Sanford HS Junior Guard Kaylon Keys plays with Old School Toughness: You don’t come across too many youngsters that play with the old school mindset these days but that’s what you get from Keys. He plays physical on the defensive end, using his body to try and make things difficult for the opposition.
Westover HS Senior Guard Isaiah Bridges know how to win games: He doesn’t put together stat lines that will really catch your attention but overall he brings a lot of the things that you want from a PG. Leadership, constantly vocal, athletic, good upper body strength and coachability. He made winning plays time and time again throughout this game and will be one that a college program will love to have running the show next year!
Westover HS Senior Forward Traymond Willis-Shaw Stepped Up: With Dunn in foul trouble and the team looking to get some more offense from different players, Traymond contributed some nice offense. Knocking down the midrange shot and crashing the boards for put backs, he was active and effective for the Wolverines.
