While inclement weather over the weekend shortened the week for many teams across the state, there were still enough important games played to impact the rankings across three of the four classes. We detail some of the movement below.
In Class 4A, Waukee (7-0) remains a strong #1. The Warriors are now the only undefeated team left in the class after previous #10 Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln lost to Bellevue West (NE). Previous #2 Hempstead (7-1) and #3 Sioux City East (7-1) each lost games last week to Iowa City West (6-1) and Yankton (SD) respectively, and they fell to #6 and #7, while Waterloo West (7-1), Cedar Falls (6-1), Dowling Catholic (8-1) and Iowa City West each moved up a pair of spots to #2-5, respectively. North Scott (7-1) is the lone newcomer in the rankings this week, re-entering at #10.
There’s a new #1 team in 3A, with Carroll (6-0) vaulting into the top spot following a pair of losses by previous #1 Assumption (7-2). The Knights fall to #5 as a result. Dallas Center Grimes (7-1) also suffered their first loss, falling from #4 to #6. Mount Vernon (8-0) moves up to #4 this week, while teams #7-10 all remain the same.
In Class 2A, there is no change. The ten ranked teams went a combined 15-0 last week and each remains in the same spot.Trey Shearer has Montezuma ranked #1 in 1A
There’s also a new #1 team in 1A, where Montezuma (7-0) takes over the pole position. The Braves are winning games by an average of 35 points a game so far this season behind the best backcourt in 1A. Former #1 St. Mary’s of Remsen (9-1) falls only one spot to #2 following a loss to 2A #3 West Sioux. The only other movement in 1A comes at the bottom, where #9 Madrid (8-2) and #10 West Fork (10-1) flipped spots following the Warhawks loss to 2A #10 Dike-New Hartford.
