Andrew Leeper – 6’5 PF 2022 – Homestead (IN)
Thoughts: Leeper had shoulder surgery so we didn’t get to see him live earlier in the season when we watched Homestead but he has been back for a few games now. As we have watched him the last two years, he looks more and more poised to be a power forward type that is going to be able to stretch the floor. He’s showing decent athleticism and explosiveness around the rim so it is giving Homestead more of a rim-protector which they desperately needed. However, offensively he can really help as a slasher and rim-runner playing mostly faced up. He is very left-hand dominant so might need to mix in his right hand as he develops. However, he shoots the ball well and looks like that little elbow jumper is a sweet spot for him. The ability to step out and shoot while also mixing in a mid-range game that is still built around shooting, for his size and position is a big deal. Have always like the makeup and project ability and if he is fully healthy and playing this well so far, could really be interesting so see how he looks against a higher level this summer.
Bernard McGuiness – 6’3 SG 2020 – Guerin Catholic (IN)
Thoughts: Have seen a lot of McGuinness over the last few years and my reality is trying to figure out what he is. But, he really doesn’t fall into any one specific category because he does a lot of things well and is typical. He’s taller than an average guard and much stronger than those coming out of high school. He’s also not a guy that relies on scoring in any one way. He’s a decent shooter, decent driver, but seems, even based on the film, to be just that opportunistic guy that takes whatever is given. He’s very active and will impact the boards really well because of that and his size. He has a ton of offensive rebounds and will continue to really put up second chance points because of it. Seems to be more effective scoring the ball on drives. He’s averaging 21.2 ppg and 7.4 rpg. He is shooting 46% from three which is good for him just he isn’t taking a ton of them. He’s showing that he has more room to grow because all of his efficiency numbers are good it might be just a combination of things that could take him to another level. Positionally, the lower level of school he goes to the more versatility he has. An NAIA or DIII program could use him 2-3-4 and his value rises with his defense. DII schools he would fall into just a 2-guard likely.
