Jimmy Wardle – Pueblo West
In Pueblo West’s blowout win over Centennial, it was Senior guard Jimmy Wardle that had a big day. He finished with 28 points on the night on an efficient 10-14 from the field. He finished 8-9 from beyond the arc in the first half alone which set him up for a big night. The Cyclones will be really good if they can continue to have big nights from him.
Eddie Kurjak – Longmont
Longmont picked up their eight wins in a row and seem to be in a rhythm and a big reason for those eight wins has been junior big man Eddie Kurjak. Kurjak has put up double-figures in all eight of those wins and has been very efficient in doing so. In Longmont’s latest win the 6’8 big man finished with a season-high 27 points on 13-16 from the field. He’s putting up 14.9 points a game and is a player that we need to have on our radars.
Kendale Johnson – George Washington
Now that is more like it, this is the Kendale Johnson type of game that we have gotten accustomed to seeing, where he can explode at any moment and put up a big game and he got himself started in league play with a 26-point outing. Most players do not have the physical attributes to compete with Johnson and when he is attacking – George is cruising. He has a nice outside jumper; his legs look like they are finally starting to get back under him and he played with extreme confidence. He did not turn down many shots and made it a point to be aggressive. He hit four 3-pointers in the game and knocked down his free throws as well. Let’s see if he builds on a big night.
Tjai Jackson – Hinkley
Thornton gave Hinkley all that it could handle on Tuesday evening but Hinkley was able to escape with a 73-66 win and it was behind the play of their senior guard Tjai Jackson. Jackson could not get it going from deep as he went 0-7 from beyond the arc but did not let that deter him. He remained aggressive and made it a point to get inside. He finished with 21 points on the night and when he went inside he delivered. If Jackson stops settling for jumpers, he will be even more dangerous a weapon.
Obi Agbim – Rangeview
Agbim had himself a day. When the 6’3 wing is on, there are not many players in the state that is capable of turning around a game as he does. He’s shooting just at 40% from beyond the arc, he can put the ball on the floor and create for himself and when he takes it for coast to coast opportunities – bottoms up. Agbim had a game-high 19 points in this one. He knocked down three 3-pointers and also had two ferocious dunks where one of them a teammate of the player that was dunked on cleared the bench.
Will Maher – Mead
That Mead team is good, I mean really, really good. They are a deep team that seems to have it all and on any given night a new player will step up. Well in Tuesday’s blowout over Erie, there were four players that finished in double figures but the player of the game was Will Maher. Maher has been having a sensation season as he is putting up 12 points a game but what has really stood out has been his passing. He is putting up 5.5 assists a game as a true point guard that plays unselfish but on Tuesday it was his night to score. He finished with a game-high 22 points but also made sure to find his other hot hands as well. With him playing at a high level, watch out for the Mavericks.
