1. Hillside Hornets (6-0)
Last Rank: 1st (↔)
The Hillside Hornets remain at the top of the Triangle 8 Conference power rankings at 6-0. They’ve won a game over Panther Creek by two points back on Jan. 10 to remain unbeaten in conference play. With their senior experience, they’ve become a tough team to beat so far in 2019-20. Up next: Cary on Jan. 17.
2. Riverside-Durham Pirates (5-1)
Last Rank: 2nd (↔)
The Pirates are 5-1 in conference play with just one loss to the Hillside Hornets so far. Their top scorers are all averaging double-figures in scoring led by sophomore Keyon Webb. They are a team to keep an eye on down the stretch. They host Green Hope on Jan. 17.
3. Green Hope Falcons (3-2)
Last Rank: 6th (↑3)
Green Hope has jumped up a few spots since winning two games in a row on the road in Triangle 8 action. They’ve got a big one coming up on Jan. 17 against Riverside-Durham that could elevate them some more come next edition. Junior Reese Evans leads the way in scoring with 15.9 points per game.
4. Jordan Falcons (3-4)
Last Rank: 5th (↑1)
Jordan High School finds themselves in the Top 4 with a recent victory over Green Level. They also hold a win over Panther Creek since gaining a new head coach. They’ll b on the road on Jan. 17 when they face Athens Drive.
5. Panther Creek Catamounts (2-3)
Last Rank: 4th (↓1)
The Catamounts find themselves a bit in a rough patch after since going 1-1 in their last two conference games. In their last loss, they fell by just two points to Hillside. 2021 Daylen Berry leads the way with 17.7 points per game and 2020 guard Armon Muldrew is producing 16.1 points per game. They’ve got Athens Drive on Jan. 14 and Green Level on Jan. 17.
6. Athens Drive Jaguars (2-3)
Last Rank: 3rd (↓3)
The Athens Drive Jaguars dropped a few spots since dropping two games in a row in conference action. They’ve lost their last two games by identical scores of 52-43 since starting out 2-1. Cape Fear CC signee A.J. Thompson still leads the way with 14.3 points per contest. They’ll look to get back in the win column when they face Panther Creek on Jan. 14 and Jordan on Jan. 17.
7. Cary Imps (1-4)
Last Rank: 7th (↔)
Cary High School has gotten a victory since the first edition of Triangle 8 Conference power rankings was released. They got their first win on Jan. 10 over Jordan and still have some work to do to climb up the ranks. They return to action on Jan. 14 against Green Level then travel to Hillside on Jan. 17.
8. Green Level Gators (0-5)
Last Rank: 8th (↔)
The Green Level Gators are still winless since making their debut as a high school in the 2019-20 season. They’ve taken some lumps this season while developing their program and let’s just say this year’s experience will drive next year’s efforts. They’ve got Cary on Jan. 14 then travel to Panther Creek on Jan. 17.
