There were 8 teams playing, Prep Hoops NorCal was in the gym on the final day. Four games including the championship had a good number of rising underclassmen who performed well.
Scott Pramuk 6’2 2021 guard Santa Cruz HS, (Santa Cruz CA)
It was my first time seeing Pramuk. The shooting guard displayed a nice shooting stroke, and was able to connect on three 3’s while trying to keep his team close in this contest. He did a good job of getting to his best spots in transition. He’s a scrappy defender who works hard to stay in front of his man. 16 points.
Jadan Adams 5’11 2021 point guard Monterey HS, (Monterey CA)
Adams showed good speed and athleticism in the open court with the ball. He’s got the shiftiness that can get opponents off balance and get himself to the rim. He’s a quality ball handler. He needs to be a little more patient when running half-court sets. His quickness and on ball defense stood out 13 points.
Chance Carlton 5’9 2021 point guard Newark Memorial HS, (Newark CA)
Chance has been running the point position for 2 seasons in this program, he knows exactly what the coach wants. He’s an exceptional floor leader and good at directing team-mates in the half-court. He’s strong and absorbs contact on the drive, and he has limited turnovers. His calm demeanor at the end allowed him to knock down 2 free throws at the end of the championship game to guarantee the victory. 7 points, and 5 steals.
Nay’veon Reed 6’5 2021 forward, Newark Memorial HS (Newark CA)
Reed is an improved player in the post area this season. In the past he had trouble holding on to the ball and finishing inside. All that has changed. He’s securing the ball on the entry pass, and his footwork is better. He’s making shots, with his size and strength he’s tough to stop when he’s got it going. He led the team in scoring and rebounds of the championship game. 20 points, 7 rebounds.
Joey Finley 6’5 2022 Palma HS, (Salinas CA)
This prospect has put the finishing touches on a good non-league season. He’s been a consistent performer for this team in the post area, and around the basket. His footwork, and a nice inside the key jumper makes him a threat. At 6’5 he’s the teams top rebounder, and he hustles up and down the court in transition. He contributed 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks in a win.
Nate Jean Pierre 5’9 2022 point guard Palma HS, (Salinas Ca)
Jean-Pierre has turned his game up since the last game I watched him play. It looks like he’s moved over to the other guard position for this team. He’s more aggressive and looking to score more from the wing when he gets the ball. He can create his own shot off the dribble. His quick first step off the dribble can be very effective if he uses it. He scored 11 points to help get the win.
Isaiah Kerr 6’2 2022 combo guard St Francis HS, (Mountain View CA)
Kerr came out with energy in this game (championship) He showed himself to be a true 2022 combo guard on this team. He was a solid ball handler under pressure when asked to bring the ball up the court. He broke his defender down on numerous occasion to get his team into half-court sets. On the wings he was in attack mode showing a nice mid-range jumper and attacking when the opportunity presented itself. He has an upside, I’ll keep watching him. 10 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.
Tyler Harris 6’4 2023 guard/wing Newark Memorial HS, (Newark CA)
This prospect is making a solid contribution to this team as a Freshman. He’s part of the rotation, and contributes in multiple ways. He can play any position on the court including point guard. He handles himself well on the wings, with his head up always looking to either move the ball, or trying to get to the rim. He can use his long arms and hops to shoot over defenders in the post area. His ability to guard on the wings, and post area was noticeable.
