But some area small schools are being led by players of note:
Kobe Johnson, 6-foot-5 senior, Ottawa:
Voters saw enough in the 4-3 Cyclones’ tough schedule to include them in the teams to watch in 4A. Johnson is one of the leading scorers in the area with 19.0 per game, and also leads the Cyclones with 7.5 rebounds. Last week, the senior put up 18 in a tough loss to Topeka West, one of the top teams in 5A.
Dawson Zenger, 6-foot junior, Rock Creek:
Rock Creek finally moved into the state 3A rankings, jumping all the way to #3 with their 8-0 record. Zenger bounced back from a rough outing against Riley County with 25 points against Rossville and 35 against Silver Lake.
Dane Spoonhunter, 6-foot-4 senior, Royal Valley:
Royal Valley lingers on the fringe of the state 3A rankings with a 7-1 record. While Nahcs Wahwassuck gets most of the recognition, Spoonhunter cleans up the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game.
Stavian Jones, 5-foot-10 junior, Seabury:
Jones led the Eagles with 29 points in their win against Veritas last week. The all-state honorable mention recipient last year has Seabury rolling, with a firm hold on the top spot in 2A with a 6-0 record.
Tee Preisner, 6-foot-2 senior, Northern Heights:
While teammate Cameron Heiman is lighting up the nets for about 23 points a game, Preisner plays a key supporting role. The 8-0 Wildcats sit at #4 in 2A and get 14.6 points and 10.2 rebounds from Preisner.
Devan McEwan, 6-foot-2 junior, Lebo:
Lebo remains in the #1 spot in 1A. McEwan blew up for 29 points against Marias des Cygnes Valley this week. He averages 18.4 points a game.
