Top Players of the Week (Week 8)
I ended my Saturday night at the Ultimate South Showcase at Lausanne Collegiate School. I basically spent my entire Saturday watching some of the best talent in the Mid-South.
The Christian Brothers-Whitehaven matchup on Friday went down to the wire. Arlington and Cordova had people on their feet in the final eight minutes. On Saturday night, Briarcrest and Olive Branch went into overtime.
So, let’s just say that I had some great games to watch.
As usual, I’m going to list the top performers of the week.
Here are the top performances from this week:
Reese McMullen, Christian Brothers: The junior guard had 24 points in the Purple Wave’s 82-66 win over Harding Academy. McMullen made four 3s in the win. He had 16 points in the 62-48 win over Southaven in the Ultimate South Showcase.
Harrison Kelly, Christian Brothers: The junior guard had 20 points and five rebounds against the Lions. Kelly made five 3s in the win. He had 11 points against the Chargers.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: Jackson had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists against Harding Academy. He had 23 points against Southaven and was named MVP.
Kobe Wilkes, FACS: Wilkes led the Crusaders with 22 points in their 66-57 win over Tipton-Rosemark Academy.
Daniel Egbuniwe, FACS: Egbuniwe had 20 points and six rebounds against the Rebels.
Harmonta Griggs, Fayette Ware: Griggs had 40 points, five rebounds, four blocks and three steals in the 85-77 win over Bolivar. Griggs had 24 points in the Wildcats’ 61-57 win over Haywood. Taki Walker had 10 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in the win. Phillip Horton provided 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
Trey Henderson, Fayette Ware: Henderson had 15 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block against Bolivar.
Luke Moore, Fayette Academy: Moore led the Vikings with 17 points in their 74-63 win over Jackson Christian. He had 24 points in a loss to ECS.
Ryan Parks, Fayette Academy: Parks had 16 points against the Eagles. He had 12 points against ECS.
Austin Abernathy, Fayette Academy: Abernathy had 16 points against Jackson Christian.
Jamari Jackson, PCA: Jackson had 23 points, eight steals and seven assists in the 99-62 win over Bluff City. Damarion Jackson had 15 points, six steals and three assists. James Golden had 13 points, 10 steals and nine assists. Cordarius Sledge had 14 points and three steals. Matthew Green provided 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Jackson had 30 points, eight steals and five assists in the 88-37 win over Oakhaven. Golden had 16 points, eight assists and six steals.
Bakari Johnson, Freedom Prep: Johnson had 17 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in the 72-68 win over Hillcrest. He had 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the 91-84 win over Fairley.
Bwerani Johnson, Freedom Prep: Johnson had 20 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and four assists against the Bulldogs.
Jaylon Sanders, Collierville: Sanders had 21 points, four rebounds and two assists in the 59-52 loss to MUS. He had 15 points, four assists, three rebounds and one block in the Dragons’ 67-58 win over Ridgeway.
Kavion McClain, Whitehaven: McClain had 29 points in the Tigers’ 98-63 win over Overton.
Alvin Miles, Whitehaven: Miles had 27 points against the Wolverines.
Kameron Jones, ECS: Jones had 17 points in his team’s 66-52 win over Fayette Academy. Grayson Saunier added 12. Mason Shropshire had 11. Dominic Brown added 10.
Jayden Williams, FACS: Williams led the Crusaders with 12 points in their 65-35 win over Sacred Heart of Jesus. Kobe Wilkes also had 12. Corey Savage, Daniel Egbuniwe and TJ Thomas each had 10.
Madison Peaster, Arlington: Peaster had 18 points in the Tigers’ 83-52 win over New Albany in the Ultimate South Showcase. He was named MVP. Phil Dotson III had 13. Chris McKnight provided 12.
Moussa Cisse, Lausanne: Cisse had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the 52-47 win over Lake Cormorant. He was named MVP of the game. Jalen Bo Montgomery finished with 13 points.
Brandon Alston, Covington: Alston finished with 18 points in the Chargers’ 54-50 win over Little Rock Hall in the Ultimate South Showcase. He was named MVP of the game. Travontae Powell had 17. TyJuan Smith had 12.
Cameron Matthews, Olive Branch: Matthews had 17 points in the ‘Quistors’ 58-57 overtime win over Briarcrest the final game of the Ultimate South Showcase. Matthew took home MVP honors. Wes Taylor finished with 10.
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: Chandler led the Saints with 19 points in their loss to Olive Branch. Michael Malone Jr. had 17 points. Rodney Newsom Jr. had 10.
Bobby Parks, Harding Academy: Parks led the Lions with 25 points in their loss to Christian Brothers. Myles Neely had 14. Parks had 27 points in a 69-59 loss to White Station.
KB Brooks, Lake Cormorant: Brooks led the Gators with 20 points in their 52-47 loss to Lausanne. Donovan Sanders had 15.
Sam Ruzhentsuv, Hamilton Heights: The Florida commit had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the 79-46 win at Chattanooga Christian. Reggie Bass had 12. Felix Okpara had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Andersson Garcia provided 10 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Jordan Frison, Overton: The freshman guard led the Wolverines with 20 points in their loss to Whitehaven.
Davon Barnes, White Station: The junior wing had 29 points and 10 rebounds against Harding Academy.
