Top Players of the Week (Week 10)
This week’s list will feature a lot of names from this weekend’s Hotbed Classic in New Albany, Mississippi.
I was there in attendance to watch the talent on the floor.
I came away with a list of names from this year’s event.
Here’s this week’s best:
Terrion Whiting, Westwood: Whiting had 23 points, eight rebounds and three steals in the Longhorns’ 66-48 win over Hillcrest. Amarion Jones added 11 points, and Jaylin Smith scored 10.
Whiting had 18 points and seven rebounds in Westwood’s 66-55 win over Fairley. Smith added 17 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Bobby Parks, Harding Academy: Parks had 31 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the 73-53 loss to the Memphis Nighthawks.
Chandler Jackson, Christian Brothers: Jackson had 16 points and six rebounds in the Purple Wave’s 54-47 win over St. Benedict. Reese McMullen had 15 points. Harrison Kelly added 12 points, and Eli Federman provided nine points and nine rebounds.
Kalib Brooks, Freedom Prep: Brooks had 18 points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals in the 82-77 win over City University. Bwerani Johnson Jr. had 20 points, seven rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Bakari Johnson had 30 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks in the team’s 84-76 win over Hillcrest.
Patrick Smith Jr., Goodpasture: Smith had 32 points, four assists, four steals and two rebounds against Mt. Juliet Christian.
Decorian Payton, Center Hill: Payton had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-74 overtime loss to Starkville in the Rumble in the South. He know has 1,056 points in his high school basketball career. Jacquez Hardin had 17, and Kaeden Laws provided 16.
Braxton Morris had 15 points in Center Hill’s 107-31 win over Lafayette. Laws led the team with 17. Tanner Burcham, Hardin and Payton each had 12.
Matt Schneider, Seigel: Schneider had 24 points in the 80-64 win over White County. Jaylan Wetzel added 23, and Zion Swader had 18.
Jamari Jackson, PCA: Jackson had 24 points, four assists and four steals in the 62-52 win over MHEA. Christian Sweet had 12 points and nine rebounds. Tre Jackson added 10 points and five rebounds.
James Golden had 14 points, nine assists and seven steals in the team’s 88-61 win over Bluff City. Damarion Jackson had 16 points and four steals.
Josh Mason, FACS: Mason led the Crusaders with 13 points in their 74-50 win over Fayette Academy. Corey Savage, TJ Thomas, Josh Ward and Daniel Egbuniwe each finished with 10 points.
Christopher Brunt, St. Benedict: The sophomore point guard made his season debut Tuesday night against Cordova. He finished with 15 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Mikhail Garrett, BTW: Garrett had 22 points in a 72-58 win over Manassas. Chaterio Porter had 20.
Davonne Warfield, Kirby: Warfield had 29 points in the Cougars’ 78-75 loss to Ridgeway.
Kendall Thomas, Ridgeway: Thomas led the Roadrunners with 19 points in their win over Kirby. Travis Dockery had 16.
Tyler Fitzpatrick, Fayette Ware: Fitzpatrick had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals in the Wildcats’ 70-63 win over Bolton. Phillip Horton had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Harmonta Griggs finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four steals. Taki Walker added eight points, 10 rebounds and six assists. JaSteven Walker added seven points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Duane Posey, Memphis East: Posey had 27 points in the Mustangs’ 72-69 win over Chaminade.
Will Farris, Bartlett: Farris had 16 points in the Panthers’ 61-56 win over Cordova. Jaylin Lucas had 11, and Kamrin Jones added 10.
Johnathan Lawson, Wooddale: Lawson had 23 points, 16 rebounds, 11 blocks and 10 assists in the Cardinals’ 92-55 win over Melrose.
Brett Culver, Fayette Academy: Culver had 19 points in the Vikings’ 76-69 win over Sacred Heart. Caleb Smith and Andrew Payne each had 15. Ryan Parks finished with 14.
Kendrick Beard, Sacred Heart: Beard had 15 points in the loss to Fayette Academy. Trey Tull and Dalton McIntyre each had 12.
Derek Fountain, Holly Springs: Fountain had 21 points and 12 rebounds in the Hawks’ 74-64 win over Hueytown in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. Cori Bell had 23. Tyhem Reaves added 13.
Cameron Matthews, Olive Branch: Matthews had 21 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and six steals in the ‘Quistors 82-81 overtime win over Mountain Brook in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. Terry Joyner Jr. finished with 19. Kyron Pleas added 15, and Wes Taylor had 14.
Colby Jones, Mountain Brook: The Xavier commit led the Spartans with 38 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Jones went 8 of 10 from the free throw line. He took home MVP honors.
Kennedy Chandler, Briarcrest: Chandler had 32 points and eight assists in the Saints’ 89-70 win over Sidney Lanier in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. Marcellus Brigham Jr. had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Omari Thomas had13. Michael Malone Jr. had 10 points, four assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal.
Antwan Burnett, Sidney Lanier: Burnett had 33 points in the loss to Briarcrest. He took home MVP honors.
Alden Applewhite, Houston: Applewhite had 30 points on 10 of 18 shooting in the Mustangs’ 76-50 win over Callaway in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. T.J. Madlock had 14 points and eight assists. Mason Miller had 13 points. Faizon Fields added 11 points on 5 of 5 shooting.
Isaiah Ball, New Albany: Ball had 33 points in the Bulldogs’ 87-53 win over Potts Camp in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. Mitchell Shettles had 22.
Jaylon Sanders, Collierville: Sanders had 15 points, three assists and two rebounds in the 66-55 loss to Southwind.
Rodney Mason, Bartlett: Mason had 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Panthers’ 75-56 win over Yazoo County in the Hotbed Classic. He was named MVP. Dimonyai Lacey had 13. Chris Martin and Kamrin Jones each had 10.
Javar Daniel, Arlington: Daniel had 18 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the Tigers’ 104-56 win over West Union. He was named MVP. Anthony Medlock had 13 points and five rebounds. Andre Watson also had 13 and Phil Dotson III pitched in 10.
Luke Willard, West Union: Willard had 26 points to lead the Eagles. He took home MVP honors. Jerod McDonald finished with 11.
Kavion McClain, Whitehaven: McClain had 32 points in the Tigers’ 79-69 win over Central. Alvin Miles had 17. Jesse Payne had 10.
Alex Anderson, Tipton–Rosemark Academy: Anderson had 28 points and 18 rebounds in a 62-57 overtime loss to ECS.
