Jalen Lewis 6’8 center Bishop O’Dowd
This young prospect is being challenged almost every game with the tough schedule O’dowd has put together. Playing against same size older more experienced prospects he’s coming along at a decent pace. He’s got good support. He’s a big body who works hard at defending in the post area. His offensive skills are coming along, but he tends to drift away from the areas where he’s most effective. He’s got a nice elbow jumper, he made good cuts from the baseline. He was very solid in the 4th qtr and overtime. 10 points.
Jaylen Thompson 6’6 2022 forward St Joseph Alameda
Thompson has realized teams are game planning for the top Soph, he’s made some adjustments, his shot selection has improved, he’s being more patient, making better passes, and trusting his teammates. He had good dribble drive penetration from the wings. He hit a few in the key jumpers, which give him an advantage with his size and long reach. He rediscovered his ability to be an effective scorer from the baseline. I understand he’s working on his perimeter game, but he helps the team best when he’s working within the 15 feet and in area. He’s still growing and will add muscle to his frame. 18 points, 5 rebounds.
Joseph Hunter 6’4 point guard San Joaquin Memorial
An athletic prospect. I’m not sure what his true position might be at this time, but Hunter handles point guard duties for this team up top about as well as any other player trying to define position. He was patient enough to get the half court offense set. At 6’4 he saw the court well in transition. He made good strong passes, and he’s finishing with authority around the rim, and a good rebounding guard. He’s capable of defending at a high level. 12 points, 8 rebounds.
Jeremiah Nyarko 6’9 forward St John Bosco
This young prospect got off to a promising start. A good looking athletic prospect whose got some hops. He’ll be difficult to deal with around the basket when he gets his footwork right. He’s strong, had a good turnaround jumper in the key, and he was strong going after his miss. He’s top prospect I’ll have to see more of.
Trey Knight 5’11 point guard Moreau Catholic
He’s being used as a combo right now. He’s accepted his new role and is playing well. He’s getting more shot opportunities, and showing he can score in multiple ways. His mid range is improved, and he’s attacking more from the baseline. He’s good at the pick-n-role and his floater goes in. 17 points, 4 steals.
Jack Wade 6’1 San Joaquin Memorial
Wade came off the bench firing away. He’s a confident shooter with good shooting form from behind the 3 point line. He hit shots in the corner and the wings. He moves well in transition and halfcourt looking for his shot. A player to keep an eye on. 3-7 3pt, fgs. 10 points.
Blake Hudson 6’0 point guard St Mary’s
This was my first look at Hudson. He had a solid floor game for a Freshman. He has a good left hand drive. He handles the ball up top with patience and confidence. He was a key player for his team in the 4th qtr. He’s an intense defender, made clutch free throws under pressure, and led his team in rebounding. 8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals.
