Aquan Smart (Niles North)
Current Ranking: #3
Smart is a player that has flown up the board over the last year and now sets as the top uncommitted prospect in the state regardless of position. He has deserved it with his play. The 6’3” combo guard is a high level athlete with a burst off the bounce. As a playmaker he has improved as a distributor being able to make those around him better. The stat sheet stuffer decommitted from East Tennessee State in December and has been a prospect that many college have been out to see since.
Tyler Beard (Whitney Young)
Current Ranking: #10
Beard is a powerful combo guard that has had an up and down career. He looked like he was about to emerge as a national recruit after his showing prior to his junior year at Nike Elite 100 in St. Louis. His junior year and summer to follow didn’t live up to those expectations. He has shown flashes as a senior why many are fans of this kid. When he gets downhill and to the rim he is a physical force. Sound mid-range jump shooter that has hit some big shots as the year has gone along. Brings defensive intensity and toughness to the table when locked in.
Luke Scheffers (St. Charles North)
Current Ranking: #38
The 2020 lead guard is a ball screen savant with the way he operates around them with his passing and pull up shooting. High level mid-range shooter with fluid mechanics. His vision and basketball IQ are off the charts being able to pass on the move with either hand. Not the most physically impressive or athletic guard he gets it done with smarts and a high skill level.
Devin Davis (Westinghouse)
Current Ranking: #56
We saw Davis early in the season when he was coming back from an ankle injury and didn’t quite have the lift he usually does on his jumper. Did it more so with his slashing game. Then at Hinsdale Central his pull up jumper from mid-range and especially three were on fire. Was balanced with sound form each time. Didn’t seem to force difficult shots either. Scoring point guard that isn’t the biggest, but he gets buckets!
Davis Walker (Home School)
Current Ranking: #58
Walker is a power combo guard that showed with RWA on the travel team circuit that he could play both on and off the ball. Tough kid that shoots it with deep range on his three point shot. Difficult eval during the high school season as he plays in a home school league.
Taaj Davis (Aurora Christian)
Current Ranking: #59
Davis lit it up to start the second half of the season after the holidays having back to back games with over 50 points. He is a lefty point guard that throws daggers from beyond the three point arc. Deep range on his jumper both pulling up and off the catch. Sound passer that pushes with speed in transition and is a tough on ball defender.
Alex Wood (Normal U-High)
Current Ranking: #68
Wood is a high IQ guard that makes others around him better. On the travel team circuit with Y&R he is more of a distributor looking to set others up in positions to succeed. Can also score it in bunches as he displays with his high school team.
Grant Niego (Lyons)
Current Ranking: #76
Niego came back from a serious injury and right now might be playing the best basketball of his career. The lead guard has gotten stronger and is an even better scorer than before as he showed dropping 32 points while being guarded by the top junior in the state over the holidays.
Jashawn Anderson (East St. Louis)
Current Ranking: #80
Anderson is the guy that runs the show for the Flyers. He is a small guard, but uses his speed in the open floor and can knock down shots! Flies a bit under the radar because he didn’t play on the travel team circuit.
