Bandon showcased the dangerous duo of Cooper Lang and Coby Smith, whom looked for one another throughout the entire game as they display a lot of synergy on the court. The blue collar theme for the Tigers helped them stay competitive early on as they trailed 35-22 at halftime. Toledo’s full court pressure was effective, as it made the Tiger’s work to simply push the ball past half-court. The defensive presence of Jaxon Rozewski in the middle was daunting for the opposition, forcing Bandon to look outside of the key for points. Conner Marchant’s all around play proved dangerous for the Boomers, as he was simply all over the court, scoring, rebounding, and handing out assists for Toledo. Mason McAlpine proved to be an effective scorer, as he showed off his ability to put the ball in the basket in a myriad of ways. At the end of it all, Toledo took down Bandon 71-53 as they showed why they are five-time defending conference champions. Here are the most impressive players from the game:
Conner Marchant (Toledo HS) – the dynamic guard was all over the court for Toledo, making plays left and right. Marchant was a key cog in the full court pressure from the Boomers, as he made key steals, rebounded, and handed out assists to his teammates in a flurry. He also showed his scoring prowess in a combination of crafty finishes to the basket and jumpers. He was the essential floor general for Toledo all night, finishing with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Jaxon Rozewski (Toledo HS) – the big man for the Boomers was the enforcer all night, as his presence made it difficult for the opposition to even get a decent look at the basket. Once establishing himself low in the post, he simply drop stepped and put it in the hoop. He rebounded effectively and got second chance opportunities at the rim for both himself and his team. Contributed 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals for Toledo.
Mason McAlpine (Toledo HS) – the junior wing showed his versatility on the court, doing whatever was needed at any given point in time. He helped spread the wealth for the Boomers, passing the ball and finding open scorers, rebounded well, and showed off his abilities to score. He matched the identity of the Boomer’s to hustle and run the floor, as good things will come to you. His efforts added to the win, as he had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Coby Smith (Bandon HS) – the tough, hard-nosed post for Bandon kept them in the game with his overall physical play. Coby showed a knack to score in a combination of his mid-range game with his sneaky inside game. He helped keep Toledo honest by not letting up on the defensive side and on the other end of the court kept applying pressure by finding ways to score. He contributed 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Cooper Lang (Bandon HS) – the sophomore paced with Tigers with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Lang played tough the entire game, finishing strong to the basket and absorbing contact on the way, finding ways to score despite excellent defense. He also took on the challenge of defending Toledo’s Jaxon Rozewski, slowing him down, as he wasn’t afraid of taking him head to head. He played a great one-two game with Coby Smith, but their combination just wasn’t enough for the full team onslaught of Toledo.
Braydon Freitag (Bandon HS) – the senior was Mr Versatile for the bunch, doing whatever needed to be done at the moment. The guard had a tough demeanor the entire gaming, as he was fearless and active throughout the floor. He showed a solid mid-range game, grabbed rebounds amongst various players, and looked for his teammates on the floor. Freitag absolutely stuffed up the stats sheet as he had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals.
