2021 guard Brock Williams, Greensboro Day School
Brock Williams‘ recent move to Greensboro Day School has paid dividends for him this season given the role he’s taken on with UVA-bound guard Carson McCorkle out with an injury. He recently received an offer from High Point University this past week.
2020 guard Kamon Green, Sanderson
Wake Tech has offered combo guard Kamon Green of Sanderson High School. Green is a valuable two-way threat on the hardwood with his ability to force turnovers and get to the rim. He’s an NCAA qualifier with room to grow his game.
Welcome to the 1,000-Point Club
2020 guard Malachi Borders, Living Water Christian
Malachi Borders continues to have a strong conclusion to his high school career at Living Water Christian School as he recently surpassed 1,000 points. He achieved the feat against Berean Baptist Academy in their 62-48 victory on Jan. 24. Borders is averaging 14.3 points, 6.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for the Warriors.
2022 point guard James Wilkins III, Calvary Day School
James Wilkins III is having quite the start to his high school career surpassing the 1,000-point mark as his sophomore season wraps up. He achieved the mark after their game on Jan. 28 against Davidson Day. He’s shown potential as a next-level prospect early in his career.
2021 guard Jamarien Dalton, North Davidson
Junior Jamarien Dalton surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Jan. 17 against Oak Grove with 23 points. Dalton has been electric in the backcourt with Tedric Jenkins for the Black Knights. He’s producing 22.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as his junior season comes to a close.
Shakeup in the Triad
Things are getting interesting in the Piedmont Triad as Mount Tabor, Parkland and Ben L. Smith are all 4-1 in conference action and jockeying for position at the top of the standings. Following their big win over Smith on Jan. 17, Mount Tabor fell to Parkland 70-63 on Jan. 24. Then on Jan. 28, Parkland fell to Ben L. Smith 75-67. It’s been an interesting mix as the conference schedule winds down for the top 3 teams. They all face each other again before the season wraps up on Feb. 14.
Kinston peaking at the right time
The Kinston Vikings are a squad that are peaking at the right time in 2A play at 17-3 and 8-0 in conference play. They’re coming off two big wins over Washington High School (79-67) and Goldsboro (91-63) as their conference schedule winds down. 2021 forward Dontrez Styles finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Isaac Parson posted 15 points and 11 assists in their most recent and convincing win over Goldsboro after winning their early meeting in double-overtime. Senior guard Cardiaa Koonce also put up 16 points in their win over Goldsboro.
Friday Games to Watch
Middle Creek @ Apex Friendship – 6:30 PM
In a battle of the top teams in the South Wake Athletic Conference, Middle Creek and Apex Friendship square off. The Mustangs won the first meeting between the two teams back on Dec. 6. Juniors Sam Perez and Tharius Suggs will look to play spoiler once again and hold onto their lead in the conference standings at 7-2. NC State commit forward
Hillside @ Riverside-Durham – 7:30 PM
In Triangle 8 action, the Riverside-Durham Pirates and Hillside Hornets meet for the second time this season. Unsigned seniors Trey Crews and Dr’ake Thompson lead a talented Hillside squad into a road game against The Hornets are unbeaten in conference play at 8-0 but the Pirates lurk in the shadows at 7-2 and look to avenge a 60-52 loss on the road back on Jan. 7.
Greenfield School @ Wayne Country Day School – 8:00 PM
It’s the second meeting between Wayne Country Day School and Greenfield School in Coastal Plain Conference action. Greenfield won the first meeting 85-71 back on Jan. 17. Wake Forest bound guard Dji Bailey and unsigned seniors Creighton Lebo and Trey Pittman will look to get another victory on the road against a focused Chargers squad.
South Johnston @ Clayton – 8:00 PM
The South Johnston Trojans and Clayton Comets face off once again in a conference game. Clayton won the first meeting back on Jan. 10. The battle between C.J. Ray and B.J. Freeman should be fun to watch.
