The Tuesday Night Elite
What players in Minnesota had monster performances on Tuesday night? Here is a group of six you should know about!
T.J. Chiabotti of North Woods. They grow shooters up there on the north shore! Last night T.J. Chiabotti, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard, made eight threes on his way to scoring 38 points for the Grizzlies who defeated Fond du Lac Ojibwe by 13. T.J. is a key reason North Woods is still a top ten team in Class A after losing Mr. Goggleye.
Delwyn Holthusen III of Red Lake. Red Lake earned an important victory over Pine River-Backus recently and Delwyn, a 6-foot-4 junior, led the way with 33 points and 19 rebounds. The biggest thing Holthusen did was crash the offensive glass collecting eleven offensive boards. Delwyn is averaging 25.5 points and 17 rebounds a game.
Gabe Madsen of Rochester Mayo. The Albert Lea Tigers are showing a bit more fight these days (they have three Big Nine wins for the first time in I don’t know how long) but Madsen was quick to shut their hopes down. He scored a Tuesday high (from what I can tell) 46 points while also grabbing 16 rebounds and dishing out five assists. Headed to Cincinnati next year.
Riley Olson of Leroy-Ostrander. Riley is a 6-foot-2 senior averaging 27.4 points a game. Coming into last night Riley has scored 40 or more points in three of the last four games. Last night was not a tough challenge as Leroy-Ostrander defeated Glenville-Emmons by 33 points scoring on 11 of 16 shot attempts plus nine boards in limited time. Also had a 45 point, 17 board performance over the weekend in a loss to Houston.
Connor St. Germaine of Proctor. Connor, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, had a career night on Tuesday knocking out five triples and 16 foul shots on his way to a 41 point showing. After getting down 19 points early in the game St. Germaine pushed the Rails to a nine point win over Hinckley-Finlayson getting to the foul line 18 times.
Jalen Travis of DeLaSalle. Some nights you just have to keep feeding that man in the middle and get away from the modern day three-point shooting on 40 to 45 percent of the possessions. Not sure if that’s exactly what the Islanders did but I do know that Princeton football signed Jalen Travis stuck some elbows into Columbia Heights recording a double-double of 24 points and 11 boards.
