Continue ReadingThe Millbrook Wildcats and Hillside Hornets battled it out in a potential 4A Playoff matchup as Raleigh and Durham collided. Here’s a look at the 6 Best Standouts from the game.
Finisher: Jalen McCoy, Millbrook
Jalen McCoy finished with a career-high 30 points to lead the way on offense for Millbrook. McCoy went 15-of-21 and scored 12 of his 30 points in the third quarter to boost the Wildcats to an 86-70 victory and their 17th win of the season.
Scorer: Trey Crews, Hillside
It was an impressive showing from unsigned senior Trey Crews as he finished with 27 points on three made 3-pointers along with six rebounds for the Hillside Hornets. The 6-foot combo guard was impressive in creating for himself and others off the dribble. He’s an unsigned prospect that should have a strong recruiting surge by March.
Paint Presence: Will Felton, Millbrook
Big man Will Felton was his usual self against the Hornets, finishing with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field (77 percent) to go along with 12 rebounds and four blocks. He took two charges as well and accumulated just three total fouls in the game while asserting himself in the paint.
Energy Guy: Dr’ake Thompson
Dr’ake Thompson was quite the force for Hillside in the frontcourt. Thompson posted 19 points and nine rebounds for the Hillside Hornets despite the result. The 6-foot-4 forward didn’t back down from his matchup against Will Felton and did well to make an impact, especially on the glass for the Hornets.
Playmaker: Adam Carey, Millbrook
Adam Carey was playmaker extraordinaire for Millbrook in their victory over Hillside. He dished out seven assists in the Wildcats’ victory with his best one coming as he was falling to the ground. Carey has done well to fill the void missing with Nolan Dorsey and is another reason they’ve remained a top team in 2019-20.
Upside: Elijah Thomas, Hillside
Elijah Thomas is another Hillside prospect with potential. He finished with 10 points and five rebounds for the Hornets. Thomas was one of three Hornets’ players to finish scoring in double-figures and the junior wing showed tremendous upside with his ability to finish around the rim and crash the boards. He’ll be a name to watch.
