Jalen Suggs. The Minnehaha Academy guard has earned his rank of six by outplaying many of the nation’s top players including a recent performance beating a trio of five star players from Sierra Canyon. Its the highest ranking any service has currently awarded Suggs and it’s a spot that Jalen has earned with some tremendous recent performances.
Dawson Garcia. The other Minnesota talent ranking in the area of 5-star player is Prior Lake’s Dawson Garcia. The 6-foot-11 power forward is currently averaging 30 points and 11 rebounds a game including a 30/10 performance against top 100 talent Ben Carlson. Dawson is shooting 51 percent from the floor and 42.5 percent at the arc this year.
Dain Dainja. Dain is a few spots inside the top 50 at 48 and what separates Dainja is his incredible skill level combined with powerful explosion to the rim. Once again this is the best low post player in terms of footwork, hands, turning over each shoulder, comfort with the dribble, and ability to finish facing or at the rim since Royce White.
Kerwin Walton. Prep Hoops staff members from California, Nevada, Illinois, Florida, and of course Minnesota all agreed that Kerwin deserves to be in the area of a top 65 level player. When you shoot at nearly a 50 percent level year round at the arc against top competition you earn that spot. The offer list shows it too. A top 10 available player in the nation.
Ben Carlson. I believe Ben Carlson has had an amazing last 6-7 months against several players on this national list and that is why he lists as a top 75 player nationally. If I had to pick one game to show as an example I would say the 12 of 13 foul shots and 13 of 22 field goals for 40 points against Dain Dainja (also held Steven Crowl to 13 while scoring 24 himself). Carlson also did a great job scoring 14-15 a game in Adidas play in July when Garcia was out with an illness.
Steven Crowl. The sixth top 100 player from Minnesota is Steven Crow of Eastview. The Badger signed big man (along with Carlson) is scoring 27 points a game and had his team ranked second in the state this week. Can Crowl do it against other quality bigs? He just had 31 against Riley Mahlman (a Wisconsin committed football junior). This Tuesday Crowl faces Garcia so we will see how he performs in that situation.
Gabe and Mason Madsen. The future Cincinnati Bearcats have their team at 9-3 on the season with Gabe scoring nearly 30 a game while Mason scores 20 a contest and leads the team in assists. Gabe is a top 125 level player nationally and Mason ranks in the top 250.
Nathan Heise. There are less than 200 players from this list signed/committed to high major programs and that number will grow to around 275 I would guess. There will be players going to high major schools that are not as talented as Northern Iowa bound Nathan Heise who is a top 275 level talent.
Drake Dobbs. There are four guys from Minnesota that I believe have the talent to play high major and be fine, but will be standouts in the next level leagues. Heise was one, next up is Drake Dobbs who is headed to Liberty. Dobbs is a top 300 level national talent.
Jacob Jennissen. It’s a complete shame that Jacob just tore his ACL because people won’t get a chance to see him at his best. Those of you that watched him blossom with the Matrix during Prep Hoops Circuit games are well aware that Jacob is top 300 area nationally and a steal for Colorado State.
Jacob Hutson. Another player right around that top 300 level nationally is Jacob Hutson. There is a reason Northwestern and Iowa were sniffing around before he committed to Loyola Chicago and that’s because Hutson is an aggressive and talented low post skilled player.
J’Vonne Hadley. Next best available player in the state after Kerwin Walton? That would be J’Vonne Hadley of CDH, a certain top 400 level player nationally who is closer to that 350 range at the moment but potentially moving up as the CDH top scorer.
Connor Christensen. One of the best defenders in Minnesota and on the Adidas Gauntlet last year, the Dartmouth committed talent earns a spot in the top 500.
Noah King. The best available point guard in Minnesota high school basketball right now has his team undefeated as they continue to take on all comers and remain number one.
