He took over on the offensive end to start the game, but Broken Arrow had an answer on the other end of the court as they finished out the first quarter even at 13. The second quarter was just as tightly contested with other Hornets giving some help to Thompson. The Hornets took a slight lead at the half 31-29. The third quarter is where the Hornets started to get a bigger advantage. They opened up a 49-41 lead at the end of three. The Tigers did not go away easy though as they fought tough and even closed down the lead to two with under two minutes left to play. The Hornets hung on though as they clung to a 62-54 victory.
Takeaways
The Depth
Booker T Washington was the team that had more talent on the court tonight but got into trouble when it got deeper into the game because of foul trouble. The Hornets only go about seven players deep on their bench with not a lot of depth on the inside. When Jalen Breath got into foul trouble Broken Arrow was able to dominate the inside because the Hornets were having to play guards down low against the Tiger big men. The big question this year is if they can overcome their depth issues. The Hornets have overcome questions about depth in previous years so it should not be much different this year.
Dominance on the Boards
Broken Arrow was able to dominate down low on the night. They were able to create multiple opportunities because of their effort on the boards. The big men for the Tigers had the advantage for much of the night because of the foul trouble that Jalen Breath got into. They were also only giving up one shot on the other end which made it difficult for the Hornets to get second chance points.
