Almond-Bancroft: As we tap into the division five field this week, we find a worthy team in Almond-Bancroft. They defeated a talented Wild Rose team on Friday, moving to 12-1 on the year.
After turnover this offseason, Elijah Kollock has stepped up as their leader, and they’ve exceeded preseason expectations behind great coaching and team play.
Fennimore: After two losses last week, Fennimore picked up a key win over Mineral Point this week. The win gets them back on track, as they are currently 10-2 and have further separated themselves from Mineral Point in the conference race.
Brookfield Central: Central faced off against Sussex Hamilton this week, a precursor to a likely postseason matchup. Central got the better of Hamilton, though, winning 64-56.
Central moves to 6-0 in the conference, dominating against the best competition the state has to offer.
Onalaska: The only game that could potentially outshine Brookfield Central and Hamilton: Onalaska versus La Crosse Central. But, contrary to past years, Onalaska topped a touted Central team, winning 73-61. Again, they relied on their praised depth, as a bevy of players provided skillsets crucial to victory.
Honorable Mentions:
Monroe: Monroe was close to a perfect week, playing three games and finishing 2-1. The loss keeps them out of the top-four, but a win over Elkhorn and Watertown shouldn’t go without recognition.
Kimberly: Kimberly took down Neenah this Friday in a highly-competitive matchup. That gives them a leg up in the conference ladder, but they miss out on the voting as the four candidates above assembled more convincing victories.
